“Top marks to Hilton”
Reviewed August 5, 2008

Stayed at the Hilton in Limerick for 2 nights in August '08 whilst touring the West of Ireland.
Had 2 adjoining rooms for a family of 4 - super rooms , spacious & clean & all at a very reasonable price.

My only gripe was with breakfast - this was an absolute disaster on both mornings . Breakfast buffet was demolished , every table was dirty come 9.00 am , shortage of cutlery, crockery, glasses...staff either didn't know better or didn't care less. Chaos on both occasions.

I just got back from Limerick. The Hilton in Limerick is a must. The Hotel is beautiful, less than a 5 minute walk into the city, clean, modern with the friendliest of staff. It is very reasonably
priced with a very nice Breakfast with the exception of the coffee. We were on a set menu for Dinner which in the past I have had more than one bad experience with, but the Hilton set menu was absolutley gorgeous. I will difinitely go back again and again.

Great new hotel - only issue was with the standard of room service breakfast the next morning - overcooked - really bad - when I mentioned it at check-out the staff didn't really seem to care.

Excellent location, great big rooms - very good choice for Limerick

Myself and my partner spent two nights at the Hilton in Limerick City during May 2008 on a weekend break.

The location is ideal for exploring Limerick city. The hotel is located on the edge of the river, and the city centre is just a 5 minute walk across one of the brigdes. Parking is easy as there is an underground parking garage at the hotel. There is a charge of 5 euro per night, and this includes a discount for residents!!

We were pleased to find a modern and well presented hotel on arrival which promised much. Check-in took 5 minutes and the staff were pleasant enough. The main entrance and foyer area was clean and modern. Our room was a very good size, and the fit and finish was to an extremely high standard. The bed was a superkingsize, and unbelievably comfortable. The bathroom had a lovely shower and separate bath with modern fittings and fixtures. The decor was new and fresh, and the room had an LCD tv, desk/chair, mini bar, ironing board and iron, tea/coffee facilities, high speed internet connection, and loads of wordrobe space, and air-con. There was a large window from floor to ceiling height which added to the modern feel of the room. Unfortunately our room was on the wrong side of the hotel for the best views of Limerick city.

On the first evening we decided to eat in the restaurant at the hotel for convenience. The menu was very appealing, but unfortunately the quality of the food was very disappointing. For a hotel of this standard, the food was very basic. On a positive note, the breakfasts are very good and defy the quality of the restaurant food. There was a good selection of cereal, fruit, breads, pastries, cooked food, tea, coffee, fruit juice. This is served as a buffet style so will suit those who enjoy a hearty breakfast.

The hotel has a lovely gym, and health club. The swimming pool is a good size, there is also a suna, steam room, and jacuzzi. The changing facilities are clean and tidy, but remeber to bring a swimming hat or this is charged at 3 euro, and you can't enter the pool area without it.

In summary, this is a nice hotel that will suit those on business or vacation. The location is great, and the rooms are lovely and very clean and well presented. The only drawback was the quality of the food in the restuarant which left a lot to be desired. For most tourists this won't be a problem as there are lots of good restaurants in Limerick to suit all tastes, but may be an irritation for the business traveller.

We stayed at this hotel as part of the supervalu breaks. The hotel and the bedroom were very modern. The bed was huge and very comfortable. bathroon was very nice also but the shower had no grip on the surface and was extremly slippey and very dangerous. The room has air con which was just as well as the duvet weighs a ton, you would definately need the air con in the room i found. The leisure centre was nice. We used the hydro pool- the jacuzzi was out of action. It was extremly hard to find as there is a completely seperate lift hidden away to access it. after asking at the reception we eventually found the lift.

One complaint was the the evening meal... i know it was a supervalu break but it was disappointing. We had a completly different menu to the usual one which is fine but there was very little choice and it was extremly basic (3 starters, 3 mains and 3 deserts) We both had the leek and potato soup which basically was a bowl of cream. Main course was fine. I had the chicken it was fine, my boyfriend had the salmon, it was fine. We both had apple cake and hazelnut icecream. The hazelnut icecream turned out to be vanilla and the apple cake was spongecake in a dish with a chunk or 2 of apple. It was so stodgy my boyfriend was left with indigestion and we only had about 3 bites of it!!... very poor. if i had paid for it i would have been disgusted but we didnt so cant complain really.

Breakfast was pretty good. Self service buffet with all the ususal stuff....overall the hotel is very nice, quite a good location but if you are going on a supervalue break the meal wont be up to much unfortunately. I have been on other supervalue breaks where the choice and meal itself was much much better.

For our second nite we ate at the Jasmine palace. It was a lovely chinese restaurant recommended by a local and was really lovely. Id recommend it.

Just want to react on the article “Great Hotel, Horrible Restaurant”
I stayed at hilton Limerick myself, and ate in the River Restaurant and must say, that I had very oposite experience.. Yes, few of the items on the menu were written in French, and had troubles to understand them myself, but that is why the staff and managers are there. Asked staff and manager himself for advice about menu and with pleasure answered all my questions and explained me the menu..
And by the way the starter beef on the menu is a dish called Carpaccio.. And if you have a look on the explanation of the dish it says: "Carpaccio - (ITALIAN) thin sliced raw meat."
The River Restaurant in Hilton Limerick is servig 5***** food and I can recommend it to everybody..

Stayed in the Hilton for the Sunday night of the Bank holiday. The hotel was very quiet, not many people around. Stayed in an executive room and it was lovely, except the room got very hot at night. The bed was really comfy and the bathroom was lovely. We decided to eat in the River Restaurant but we booked it without looking at the menu. Bad move! Firstly we didnt understand what any of the dishes were, my boyfriend ordered beef as a starter, but it came out raw, discusting. The main course was ok, cant go too wrong with a steak. And the desert was nice too! Very very pricy though. I would recommend this hotel, but not its restaurant, go out to the city to find a nice place.
