After seeing over-flattering photos of vacation rentals, we were pleasantly surprised to find Coolbeg Lodge even nicer than it looked from its posting. Bright boxes of pansies decorated the windows, including the large, arched one that let ample light into the living/dining room. Having two bedrooms allowed us to spread out and do a bit of repacking. The space was generous for the two of us and would have been fine for a family with a couple of kids or for two singles traveling together. Having a separate kitchen was a treat, and it was the best-equipped we've encountered in a self-catering unit anywhere. (There's a small grocery about a kilometer away, but we were glad we'd stopped in a larger town for our serious supermarket-shopping.) The daffodils dotting the front yard were a tad past their prime, but a picnic table made it a fine place to sit and enjoy pleasant evenings. Pat, the owner, couldn't have been nicer. He greated us with squares of iced chocolate cake and filled us in on the area. Although Coolbeg Lodge is only about 20 minutes from central Limerick, it has a lovely rural feel. We wish we'd planned to spend a week there, rather than just three nights.
Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Don't expect a modern slick property, instead you get lots of ole world charm here and delightful owners who wanted to make our stay enjoyable. Handy location in semi rural setting.
No supermarket in village, only service station with limited groceries. Be prepared to go to Adare if you want a nice restaurant or you have choice of local pubs.
