The Wild Onion is a genuine all American bake shop, a real asset to the food culture of Limerick, run by Bob & Ruth and their trusty crew. Cinnamon Rolls to die for, Rye Bread a real favourite in our house, and fantastic artisan loafs of bread. They focus their baking on different items each day so you're always in for a treat.

Like everyone else I was sad to see the back of the Wild Onion Restuarant by the Milk Market but the Bake Shop has softened the blow some what

The white loafs remind me of how good bread used to be and for any old Limerick heads its as good as the famous 'Mac's Pan' from that old bakery from yester year on John St.

The treats are what makes the place though, Saturdays Apple and Cinneamon turn overs are my favourite.

Well worth a visit/treat once a week and wishing the guys continued success

At the end of 2011, Bob & Ruth called time on The Wild Onion Cafe so Bob could open his bakeshop. Here Bob could indulge his passion for baking "specialty" breads, cakes, cookies and other goods.

Every day there is a different special bread - there is a schedule and Bob regularly tweets his selections. Baking with his partner in crime, Damien, they produce breads that are worth the trip over the bridge to sample. The rye bread is my personal favourite although the cornbread runs it a close second.

Commitment to quality is paramount, as Bob has changes his wholemeal flour to produce an even better loaf.

The apple turnovers are stunning. Most apple turnovers usually consist of too much pastry and a sweet commercial filling. Not here - the generous homemade apple, cinnamon & raisin filling is counterbalanced by citrus and is to die for.

As with the cafe, there is a plentiful and ever changing supply of cookies, including my personal favourite the peanut butter and chocolate chip - although there is something for everyone.

Ruth, of course, is still out front - welcoming the customers and making everyone feel at home.

Of course I miss the cafe but this bakeshop is a wonderful substitute and, of course, their produce head and shoulders above anything you get in the supermarkets & bakeries elsewhere in Limerick! Just go!
