If one starts at St Mary's Cathedral and walks towards King John's Castle on Nicholas street they will arrive at Castle and The Bishops Palace across the street. It is then a lovely stroll (anti-clockwise loop) down past Castle Antiques to Thomond Bridge and the Toll House. One can go down by the river with original Limerick City Walls on the right take another right and walk up to the Villiars Alms House, Old St Munchin's Church and Graveyard and end up at the Bishop's Palace. In there the reading room and collection of 26 sketches are on view to the public free of charge Mon-Friday normal working hours. The graveyard is also open Mon-Fri normal working hours.
