Description: The Red Onion Brasserie, located in Limericks heritage-listed Georgian Buildings on O’Connell Street, is one of the city’s most thriving restaurants. The basement establishment offers a fine example of natural stone features dating back to the 1800’s. Its rustic design enhances the overall dining experience, which includes a large private area for that special party and cosy candle lit dining that suits all occasions.Head chef and proprietor Stephen Griffin is a natural in the art of modern cuisine, serving signature fish dishes among a vast selection of mouth-watering creations with both Mediterranean and European influences.Proprietor Keith Hennessy describes the Red Onion as offering a “casual dining experience, with great menus of comfort food, sourced locally, served and presented by attentive staff.” As well as a “must sample” exclusive Dessert sharing platter, the restaurant also boasts an extensive wine menu that includes classic French and Italian as well as new world tastes.Patrons have the option of choosing from either the a la carte set menu (€29.95 for four courses) or the value set menus (€17.50 for two courses) or (€20.50 for three courses). The Red Onion Dessert tasting platter is a must Value menus available (Sun- Thurs) all Evening, (Fri/sat) until 6:30.

“Authentic, Affordable and central location”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Food:
Home-made breads teased your tastebuds. Each course was an explosion of flavours to the palete and very pleasing to the eye. Portions sizes were just perfect. The shared Dessert platter was "Heaven on a plate". Wine list complimented the food.
Staff:
Very very friendly and non-pretnetious, service amazing.
Ambiance:
Surroundings very relaxing, a combination of rustic and romantic. We loved the division of eating areas, added a sense of intreague.
Price:
Very affordable considering the quality of the food, service and surroundings
Overall:
there with a group of girlfriends heading to the theatre, beautiful way to start the evening, cannot wait for our next visit, location and parking excellent to all city centre amenities.

“Beautiful setting, Good Food and Friendly Staff.”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Visited the Red Onion recently, had a Pigsback voucher (20.50 for to starters, mains and dessert platter for 2). The food was really good, we had the chicken wings and the tempura prawns, slow roasted pork belly (amazing) and the chicken and bacon carbonnara. All the food was beautiful. Our waitress was very pleasant. We were offered some time to relax between our mains and dessert if we wished. I happened to mention when booking that it was our wedding anniversary and the Restaurant treated us to a glass of wine which was a really lovely touch. The Customer Service in this Restaurant is really good and other restaurants could do with taking a leaf out of their book. It costs nothing to be pleasant to people. The dessert platter was a real experience, peanut butter icecream - surprisingly very tasty!! There is a choice of four desserts on the platter which I understand changes every week. I will have no problem in recommending this Restaurant. Our experience was a very pleasant, friendly one coupled with good food - what more could one ask for. Ours was a couples visit but this is a restaurant would be lovely for a girly night out to relax and chat, or with family. The decor is really lovely in keeping with the Georgian area of the City. We will definitely back with our without voucher. Thanks guys for a lovely evening!

“Food very average, service very pleasant”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Visited this restaurant with friends last week. Whilst the decor and service are very pleasant, our food experience was only average. Two of us had mussels starter which was fine - I had "Firefly tempura prawn" which was 4 prawns in a fairly soggy batter with lettuce and what seemed to be horseradish sauce - edible but not what I expected. Mains were very average, Thai curry contained more potato than chicken and presentation could certainly be improved. Sole with black pepper was again in a soggy batter. On the plus side, our waitress was very pleasant. We ate from the value menu - €17.50 per person for two courses, which is reasonable but there are other places offering a higher standard for the same price. We won't be rushing back.
