Railway Hotel in Limerick, Ireland in directly across from bus and train station and only 2 blocks from the CityLink Bus stop( Walk in same direction as bus is pointing for 2 blocks and go left one block to door). I found it a great value and an easy walk to all parts of town. Limerick is definitely worth visiting while in Ireland for 2-3 nights. The hotel has a good traditional pub which I did NOT find noisey as some reviews claim. The patrons are as friendly as any in Ireland and NOT rough as some reviews claim, The restaurat was clean and breakfast was as good as you'll find anywhere. Stayed August 2009 in a single ensuite room. It's smallish but at the price WHO CARES! TV with remote worked fine. I found the whole place to be clean and as I walked the halls all the rooms seemed to be so. Even the shared bathrooms appeared clean...subject to change based on users I'm sure...splurge... spend the $5 for your own bathroom... you desire it! I WOULD AND WILL STAY AGAIN... Oh yeah.. nice park just down the street. Wi-FI FREE in the pub... didint get get signal in room though.

I have stayed at this hotel more than 15 times and it is safe ,comfortable and consistent. The owners have been accommodating and helpful each and every time. They care about you as a traveler and guest. The pub is clean and a typical local. The food is excellent and cheap. The rates are wonderful. If your expecting to be Yankafied you will not be happy. If you enjoy the big chain American Hotels robbing your wallet , as it seems Yanks do, than go somewhere else. Americans expect big chain luxury at ridiculous prices and they gravitate towards them.Thank god because then I do not have to be burdened with then at the Railway Hotel. This attitude is why many tourist miss out on the real Ireland.
The Railway is clean and the beds are warm and comfortable at a SUPER reasonable price. It is typical of Irish B&Bs who have not been the victim of overpriced Americanization.Never have I felt unsafe or under accommodated. There can be noise and one can expect some singsongs at 1am.Perhaps you should go join them.. You have the Train, Bus and Main Taxi directly across the street. You have a park filed with daffodils in the spring just a half a block away. The city center is a short walk away. What more could you want. If you want an oylmpic sized pool,a work out room and sauna and a tanning booth why did you leave the US.

If you are looking for luxury, better hike down the road to find it--and pay double the price.

However, if you want a warm Irish welcome, a clean bed, a hot shower and people who will take the time to talk with you like they know you, and halp you, you'll enjoy staying at Limerick's historical Railway Hotel.

I'm an Irish-American who travels home to Limerick and because all of us are gone now, I stay at the Railway. Seriously, it is like stepping back into time. And, athough the hotel is old, so too is the manner in which you will be treated. The rates are very reasonable and the food is delicious.

So, stay in the Sheraton if you want luxury but stay at the Railway if you want reasonable rates and a warm Irish welcome.

This place is a dive. A seedy pub with rough customers. Rooms are horrible and noisey particulary at weekends when the locals in the pub below your room decide to turn on each other with associated screaming, smashing of furniture and police sirens. Kitchens are filthy and adhere to no hygiene standards that I know of. As title of this review suggests, buy a tent - utter luxury in comparision!

This is a very old hotel that problem did a booming business when the railway was the main means of mass transport, those days have long gone. The rooms are small, the decor is aged and the I had the overwhelming feeling that I had travelled back in time to the 1950’s. In fact it is quite possible that the decor and furniture has not been updated since this era! The floors, stairs and corridors are creaky and the furniture, carpets, curtains and other fittings are old. The bar does a very good local trade, most of the customers are older regulars. On the night that I stayed there was a singsong that went on well after 1pm which made sleep impossible. The rooms were clean enough and I did see cleaning staff at work. I can not comment on the breakfast as I did not have one. All the staff that I met were pleasant and helpful. Overall this is a very very basic hotel offering bargain basement in b&b-I paid £35 for a night. Location is fine if you are travelling by train or bus and is 5 min walk from the city centre. If you are on a very tight budget this may suit you, if you can afford a bit more then there are many better options.

We stayed at the Railway Hotel in Limerick in July this year. The rooms, even the non-smoking ones, stank of cigarettes and they all had ashtrays in them. I commented to the managment who felt they had no control over people smoking in their rooms. THe food was of poor quality also, the scrambled egg was swimming in water, to the point of it slopping over the side of the plate and all other food I tried there was badly cooked.
However, the staff were very nice and kind and it was hard to complain too much. But I won't go back.

I stayed here in February. The hotel is adjacent to the train station. Even though it is located in the city I was lucky enough not to hear any noise. I was staing in a room back of the hotel. Will stay again. The owners are also very friendly.
