“Gorgeous Spot!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

My mom and I stayed at the wonderful Desmond Lodge just across the street from Lough Gur. We were able to enjoy a beautiful clear day and walk on the paths around the lake. It was simply breathtaking and we're so glad that we were able to stay closeby to this beautiful spot. The visitor center was closed while we were there, but we enjoyed our time walking around the park. Definitely recommend!

“Give Yourself a Day to Explore the Wonders of Lough Gur”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

If you've happened upon Lough Gur- either by accident or on purpose- count yourself fortunate. This 'hidden gem' of Ireland doesn't see as many tourists as it should, considering all the history and legend that surrounds the area.

The Visitor's Center (cash only, very affordable) is where you should begin- just to get an idea of what you can experience and to pick up an i-Trails map. If you are the plan ahead type, be sure to visit the Lough Gur website to download MP3 tours to guide you around the area.

From Hangman's Rock, high above the lough, to the remains of Stone Age houses, megalithic tombs and massive stone circles, Lough Gur has the legends and history many come to Ireland for.

For a truly unforgettable experience, hire a local guide to take you around and tell the tales.

We only had a morning in Lough Gur- but wish we could have spent the day. We plan to return and explore more of this incredible area.

Tip: wear sturdy walking shoes and be prepared to hike!

“Delightful community, beautful lake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

We had the chance to tour part of Lough Gur during our one day stay at Desmond Lodge. One day really wasn't enough, but we were thankful for the time we had. We attended a lovely community variety show at the Lough Gur visitor centre...we understand there may be another one coming in September so keep your eyes peeled. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable time where we learned about the community history, notable residents, sang some songs and were entertained by local talent. The lake scenary is quite nice...we only had time for a short part of the trail. If you're travelling to or through Co. Limerick, make a point to stop in to Lough Gur.

“Scenic beauty & ancient history in one”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

For 3€ you get an engaging introduction from the guide and a short video. A couple of walks set out on leaflet one which gives beautiful views back across the lake. Small museum with some artifacts/replicas. Even if you're not that interested in Pre-historic sites this is worth a visit for the scenery & walks. Visitor centre is open until 5 ish but site is open all the time, has public loo and you can download information & guide from loughgur.com to fill you in if you miss the video - do this before you go as network coverage is sketchy. Lots of other sites (ruins, stone circles etc) around area also. A must. Bring a picnic!

“Lovely way to spend the afternoon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

Visited the lough gur attraction on sunday with my wife and two small children. Its a lovely quiet place. I imagine it would be quite busy come the summer but the place is well maintained with some picnic tables dottted around in different places and lots of dustbins. The visitoe centre is quite small. No idea re value for money but ten euros for 2 adults and two kids seems about as little as you could charge for whatever it is they are offering. we didnt have time to have a look.

We went for a very nice walk up the very steep path behind the centre. The children loved it as they were able to explore a little in the wooded area but you would need to watch them as it is quite steep in areas.
this attraction would suit people looking to have a nice picnic in a safe area for small kids to ru around or really active people who are looking for a tough walk around the lake.

the toliets were rough looking but clean and maintained.

well worth a visit and we will be back
