“Welcome to Kilkenny”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

January 3rd had the pleasure of spending time in this beautiful friendly well appointed hotel in the heart of Kilkenny.our travelling party consisted of 10 Chinese residents over in Ireland for a family wedding and the welcome and service from all in the hotel was second to none The rooms were bright and spacious and the added touch of mineral water and nibbles was super .Bar food was of an excellent standard and the buffet breakfast was well presented and extremly tasty. The visitors from China were very impressed and to be honest The Pembroke ranks amongst the best hotels i have ever stayed in Well done for making our stay in Kilkenny so enjoyable thanks to all your staff A 4 star experience excellent value and a real Cead mile failte .

Stayed in the Pembroke for a Saturday night while exploring Kilkenny City. Staff were especially friendly and courteous when we arrived at the front desk. Breakfast was top notch and additionally the bar had a nice adult crowd without being intimidating. Highly recommendable for couples looking for a weekend break. The location couldn't be any better and the room was second to none. Well done to all at the Pembroke :-) We will be back!

Room Tip: Not aware of any Spa or Swimming pool deals associated with the hotel - or reduces costs.

Myself and my friend and her baby recently stayed in the Pembroke. It was just before Christmas so there was a great atmosphere in the hotel. They were very accommodating for children and very accessible with prams etc. The rooms were a lovely size and the decor in the rooms were very cosy.
Parking was no problem and the WIFI was great. The location of this hotel is amazing... Within very close walking distance of Kilkenny Castle and perfect location for a night out without the need for taxis!!! The food in the restaurant was lovely and there was a few lovely touches and the breakfast was lovely too .
The staff are extremely friendly and there was an extremely prompt response when reception was called . I would definitely return to the Pembroke and I am thinking of organising to stay there for a friends hen party !

We booked in for a three night break just after Christmas. Friendly and efficient check in and the room was spacious. We had lunch in the bar while we waited for the room to be cleaned. The bar has a separate entrance from the street and is quite small. The choice was limited possibly as it was just after Christmas.

We reserved a table that night in the restaurant. There was no need as there were only a handful of other diners. The room was large and bare and we were told that there was no a la carte menu, just a set menu. The starter was a salmon mousse which was too cold having spent a day or two in the chiller, and too dry. Main course were adequate but when we asked for a cheese board for dessert we were told there wasn't any cheese.

We ordered breakfast in the room each morning. Each morning the breakfast was lukewarm and the tea cold. It seemed that the food had been cooked about three hours before it was brought up.

The room was quite good but the bed mattress was faulty and made rude noises when one turned in the bed. The carpet in the corridor was grubby and in general the appearance of the hotel was one of lack of care/or lack of funding to keep up standards. The staff were all non nationals and mostly very good. Wake up Pembroke!!

Staff went above and beyond for us. They even picked up, delivered , and cut my mom's birthday cake at no charge. Rooms were spacious compared to many others I've stayed in. The location could not have been better. We could walk to all the sites, shopping and restaurants in Kilkenny. I'll be back and would recommend it to my family and friends.

Room too hot, not able to adjust temp at all. Wardrobe very small. Bed with no top sheet, didn't realise that this was standard !! Think about it, duvet covers are not changed every time when you stay in a hotel, so who knows who I shared the cover with previously. Room above the smokers area so could not leave window open, booked a superior room, not very superior at all. Iron presser did not work. Asked for an iron to be sent to the room, had to ring a second time for an iron board as well as the person didn't realise that that would be useful too. Bathroom basic. Asked for a tray with a pot of tea and coffee sent up to the room, given the tiniest amount of milk with it. Just small things but they were annoying, we don't get to stay that often in hotels , being parents of young children, so this was disappointing to say the least.

Room Tip: Don't have a room near smokers area, as it got quite smokey and noisy when the window was left o...

Dear Guest

It's a pity you didn't talk to us as we have a 24 hour team available for all such incidents. Duvet covers are always changed, that's one of the attractions of duvets. Our rooms are air-conditioned with individual controls so the temperature is controllable and you needn't open the window. We generally get it right with the amount of milk and you only had to ask to get more, A new ironing unit had been fitted in your room, but there was a connection problem. With built in ironing boards, there would generally be no need to bring a board, however in your room there was no socket adjacent that location, so a board should have been brought with the iron. Sorry about this and I hope that other aspects of your visit to Kilkenny were enjoyable and that you may return and have a pleasant stay.

Warm regards,

Paul
