I spent a weekend at The Pembroke with a group of 12 ladies from the ages of 18 to 46. I was organising the weekend and as I didn't know much about accommodation in KIlkenny I emailed a few hotels for quotations. From the first email I received I knew that this hotel was the perfect choice. Every member of staff with whom I spoke was utterly professional, friendly and went above and beyond their call of duty to be of help. When we arrived at the hotel the atmosphere was really warm and welcoming. The rooms are modern and spotlessly clean as is the rest of the hotel. The staff were always one step ahead in terms of what we needed. The location is absolutely perfect, short "heel distance" from pubs, clubs, shops, restaurants. Food was top class. I would especially like to mention Paul, Keith and Phil Lanigan for their professionalism. I wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting Kilkenny in the future.

My husband and I decided to book the Pembroke for the kilkonomics festival purely based on reviews from tripadvisor and we were very disappointed. On the plus side the location is great and the reception are friendly. On the negatives it's like a holiday inn - except a very expensive holiday inn. The bedroom was freezing which the hotel obviously realise as they leave a heater in the room. The bathrooms are tiny, the beds are hard and the hotel public areas I.e. reception area/halls could do with a good hover. There are much better hotels in Kilkenny!

Dear Guest,

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay, even though you appreciated our great location and friendly reception team.

The hotel is air-conditioned and on occasion we give senior citizens an oil filled radiator, if they request it for familiarity reasons, so one may have been left in your room .(We have an age-friendly agenda). The rooms and bathrooms are all in excess of 4star sizes and standards, with some rooms significantly bigger and all are enjoyed by a large range of visitors, including many from the US where size and comfort matters! Your expectations may have been unrealistic for a 4 star city centre boutique hotel.

We have a very committed team, driven to achieve high standards and I am confident that we can depend on them to make sure the hotel is presented to a very high standard.

I agree that there are lots of good hotels in Kilkenny and I hope you get to experience all that Kilkenny has to offer again.

Paul

We spent 2 night at Pembroke hotel during our stay in Kilkenny.
Located in the city center has an internal parking very useful, rooms are big and the bathroom was good and clean. Located few minutes walk from the castle it is a very good starting point to visit the city. Breakfast was average and dinner at hotel restaurant was good even if a little on the expensive side considering the menu. For sure more expensive than a B&B outside the city if you have not much time for visiting Kilkenny is a perferct place.

Stayed in this hotel mid October and found it to be a lovely hotel. Staff were helpful and pleasant. It was a very security conscious hotel. You had to use your keycard to go to a floor in the hotel and after hours the hotel is locked up and the night porter lets you in and checks your name and what room you are staying in. Breakfast both mornings was hot and tasted lovely. Stayed in a treble room and the single bed was comfortable

We stayed in 5 different hotels throughout Ireland in October, 2012 and enjoyed our stay here the most. Check-in was quick and the front desk clerk very friendly and helpful. She recommended a great pub in town for traditional music. Parked car just outside door and went up to a beautiful, clean room that was ultra quiet and comfortable. The best sleep of the week. Our room overlooked Kilkenny castle-good luck beating that view! Called front desk for ice and within 5 minutes bartender came up with a bucket full. Enjoyed the breakfast, though the server sat us at our table but left us wondering hot to order the hot breakfast items. We had to track down another server who gladly took our order. Hotel is walking distance to everything you need.Check out was quick and easy, front desk clerk walked us outside to give us directions to our next destination. I was impressed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a castle view.

We stayed at Pembroke in September 2012

We stayed in a Deluxe room, we got a free upgrade with tripadvisor.

Room was comfortable and the size not to bad
Bathroom was neat and clean and comfortable. Not the biggest but not the smallest either

We had a room at the back of the hotel, which overlooked the parking lot, but also gave us a view of the Castle

This hotel is in the centre of town, in the middle of the main road. We were fortunate to find parking at the back of the hotel, i think it could be a huge problem during peak seasons. They do have alternative parking but not sure where it is located.

Breakfast was nothing special. Typical Irish Breakfast. With a small selection of cold buffet. The hot breakfast is also served buffet style. I had just come from another hotel, where we had a choice for breakfast, so this, although not bad, was disappointing.

The hotel is clean and neat. The foyer is beautiful.

Overall not a bad hotel

Came here for a surprise birthday weekend with my boyfriend. The receptionist was not very friendly. Our room had a terrible smell of smoke. The rooms was small and so was the bathroom. The only really nice thing about the room was the view of the castle.
We had food in the bar, which was nice but a bit pricey. This bar seems to get busy on the weekends, which creates a nice atmosphere. Was a nice place to have a drink before going to bed.
The location of this hotel is great because you're right in the centre of Kilkenny, but there are lots of other hotels in the area which I would check out next time I'm in Kilkenny.

Overall, it's a fine hotel but you could definitey find somewhere better for that price. There is just a lack of....personality about Pembroke

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review.

I am disappointed that you were not happy with all aspects of your visit but as it was almost a year earlier that you stayed, it’s difficult to respond to all of your concerns.

I can say that we have a new kitchen and bar leaders, with an offer based on feedback and focus group requirements. We believe in value for money for all our guests and would advise you to book well in advance in order to get the best possible deals.

I hope that you may return again and have a better overall experience, including the personal service, which is so important to us as well as you.

Paul
