“Romantic break in a wonderful location.”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Stayed here during my honeymoon and loved it. Amazing room, polite and friendly staff and beautiful grounds. Close to Kilkenny City and main routes. We stayed in room 42 which was HUGE and something I haven't seen in many other hotels around the world. Can't wait to go back and as soon as I have an excuse I will.

Room Tip: Ask for room 42. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

We had a fantastic stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful- nothing was a problem to them. The atmosphere was great. I would go back in a heartbeat. Although the hotel is a little way outside Kilkenny City this just adds the the charm of the hotel. The grounds are beautiful & very well maintained.

The breakfast was amazing - if you miss everything else DO NOT miss breakfast!

The hotel was spotless and the rooms were fantastic.

I couldn't fault any aspect of the hotel.

While a short drive outside of Kilkenny, Lyrath Estate Hotel is definitely worth it. As you pull up a long drive and see the beautiful original refurbished house overlooking the green lawns. The modern hotel, spa and convention center were built seamlessly behind the house for a wonderful combination of modern and historic.

The doorman who greeted us was possibly the friendliest man I have ever met. Overall the staff were lovely and helpful, though some tended on the serious side. My brother, his wife and their baby had a king bed with a travel cot and a view of a horse pasture they absolutely loved, all for just 130 euro, yummy deluxe breakfast included. My husband, two sons and I had a family room with a queen, two twins and plenty of extra room for a rousing game of monopoly checked out at the front desk (there was a little table with two chairs we pulled up to the bed). A luxurious bathroom with huge tub, beautiful view of gardens were a treat, and the 150 euro price tag seemed very reasonable. I should mention there was also free internet.

What was amazing was the huge number of families at this place, many seemed local. Tons of kids activities and outdoor play spaces. This was great for us, though there was a couple watching the football game in the bar at night who was pretty unhappy with the kids even there. We really enjoyed the first walk of the estate in the walking book they give you at the front desk and even saw a loon protecting eggs in a nest as we took the paddle boats around the small lake.

The thai restaurant was excellent, as was the massage I received at the spa. Both highly recommended!

What was really special was exploring the restored house, including a grand entrance and staircase, and several different rooms each with their own charm. The space is restricted to guests over 16, which was fine. We actually enjoyed exploring it to ourselves no one else around, though the night we were leaving it was fun to watch a wedding starting, the best part being all the hats the ladies were wearing.

We all agreed we wished we had a longer time, and would have spent several more days there just luxuriating in the hotel and their spaces and exploring beautiful Kilkenny!

Hotel really caters for children with a pool (small in size), small playground, cinema for the kids was excellent with movies on every two hours. We loved the cookies and milk at bed time. Good menu for the children in the bar. Unfortunately we were given a room under the main dining room and I spent a couple of hours lying in bed listening to footprints and noise. There was a great spread for breakfast but unfortunately the hot breakfast was not very hot! When I informed the staff I was told that the heaters under the chafing dishes were probably not turned on!! A bit disappointing.

Room Tip: try to get a room on the top floor as you can hear noise from ceiling above. However it's upside...

I'm finicky at the best of times when it comes to hotels. I'm annoyingly sensitive to quality of service and getting the basics right. The Lyrath ticks all the boxes. The hotel itself is lovely - spotlessly clean, airy and bright ... generally everything had a touch of quality. More importantly the staff were excellent and were very attentive and helpful. It's incorrect as stated in an earlier review that children are not allowed in the main restaurant. The hotel information sheets are clear on when children are allowed in the restaurants and we worked easily around this. This makes sense to me in a hotel which hopes to cater well for families and individuals/couples alike. There are two restaurants and bar food - the food is excellent in all three. I could not find anything to quibble about and I'm good at quibbling. Would recommend it highly for families. The facilities for keeping children entertained are well above your average hotel. Rooms were very quiet with good air conditioning. Kilkenny itself is a lovely town and very close by. Overall a relaxing and satisfying break away.

My wife and our two small children (16months+1month old) travelled to Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny not knowing what to expect. It was our first time in Kilkenny and after what we experience it won't be the last! The hotel is set in beautiful scenery with a lovely drive in. After unloading the car we made the short walk to the hotel reception where we where greeted by Ray the doorman. He made us feel very welcomed and took great interest in the children. He actually couldn't do enough for us and helped us with luggage etc. The hotel itself is beautiful mixing the old building with the new building effortlessly. The staff where so friendly and took great time explaining to us about the different facilities and events which were on and which would suit us such as Mickey and Minnie show, arts and crafts, pool and playroom. There is something on each morning and evening for children during the summer. The room was excellent, both clean and spacious. We did not attend the hotel restaurant during our stay but ate in Tupper's Bar where the service and food where both excellent. Again the staff could not be faulted. The grounds of the hotel are outstanding with nature walks and biking trails. There are lots of facilities for all age ranges such as soccer, basketball, snooker and playhouses. Each time we left the hotel Ray was on hand offering help with bags and driving our car up to reception (He knew our children's names after one meeting! Seems a small thing but it means a lot when you have that type of personal service). Since our return home we have been raving about the hotel to family and friends, who have all decided to join us next year to meet the new friends we have made at the Lyrate Estate!

This is a really nice hotel. My husband and i arrived late Sundreaay night Aug 19th( held up on M1 due to car crash),got a very warm reception from staff. Our room was upgraded from Deluxe to Executive, the nicest room i have ever stayed for 4 nights, the only quibble was noise from a fan at night, and the room was overly warm..Had lovely dinner.Breakfast was good every day,had 2 dinners.Staff were wonderful, well done to all.Gym is very small 2 treadmills and 3 other machines. We did not use the pool. You have to pay €20 to use the Thermal Suite in the Spa.This is a very good 4*plus hotel.

Room Tip: Room overlooking ponds maybe too warm
