“An Oasis in the Desert”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

If you are in Kilkenny and you want to be far from the madding crowds then this is the place for you. I popped in there one evening with my sister while in Kilkenny, now to find it is easy, It's on the main High Street in Kilkenny beside a very up market Boutique called Bourke's ., The entrance is beside Bourke's Boutique its a gateway and one might suspect there was nothing at the end of this entrance but just keep walking and you find yourself stepping back in time to a bygone era. The Bar is really small and what's great about that is you end up talking to most people in the Bar. I found it friendly and the Host was very hospitable and told us the history of this oldest townhouse in Ireland dating back to 1582. There are often notable artists performing there. This is a unique place, totally different to anywhere else in Kilkenny and well worth a visit.

“Amazing place ...”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

If you visit Kilkenny ..... make sure you visit here ....

Along with a drink at the bar, and probably some entertainment ... you will likely get a brief history lesson, about why / how your part of the world is linked with Ireland ! Ask about the links to 1916.

Fascinating place .. small + intimate.... if there are 20 people in there - it's crowded !

Not open every night ... part of the appeal .... a very special place ....

“Historic building, buzzing nightlife, welcoming”

Great place, owner friendly and welcoming to new people. A place that makes you feel at ease. Different from average pub. Great cultural events. Medieval building, full of atmosphere. Good for meeting people in a relaxed way.

“Definitely a must”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Great atmosphere and very unusual setting. We really enjoyed the company and some great music. Mick is a great entertainer and has done a wonderful job in making this a little treasure. The only fault we had was that the drink is too expensive
