“A comfortable pub for a sit-down and chat.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

When Kilkenny night life becomes a bit boisterous, the Hibernian Bar is a haven. It is warm and welcoming with a decent sized lounge, yet it manages to be cosy. The music just covers conversation from other tables but easily allows you to hear at your own table. Efficient bar and floor staff.

“A bit dissapionting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

I had been before and found in very good. I had took some people to visit Kilkenny Castle and took them here for some food. Two of us had chowder. I know Chowder varies a lot for place to place but I was very surprised to find the shop bought grab sticks in the Chowder!!

“Gastro food, it wasn't !!!!!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

We ordered veggie curry and goats cheese quiche .Quiche had no flavour and came with side salad without dressing and the leaves were gritty. Chutney would have been a nice addition. I got approx SIX chips, would have eaten more ! The Veggie curry was lacking in vegetables with too much sauce.
Friendly staff but service was slow, we weren't offered water and we were not offered dessert menu so we just paid for our meal and left. Didn't feel service warranted a tip because of poor value.
Sadly. we will not be returning.

“Tasty Bar Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014 via mobile

Popped into the restaurant whilst on an outing to Kilkenny. The bar/restaurant was quiet for a dinner time on a Saturday & we got a nice table near the window. Service was prompt & efficient and the menu had good choice. The food was delicious and i will return again and recommend. The only negative was the glasses of water provided with the meal, they had a distinct taste of chlorine so instead we just ordered soft drinks at the bar.

“Disappointing Breakfast!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Following a lovely long weekend in the city we called into the Hibernian for a quick breakfast to round off our break & fuel us for the journey home. We both ordered the pancakes & were told that these were served with maple syrup so we asked for some bacon on the side also! We were very disappointed with what was presented which were 3 thin (tasteless) crepes & a couple of small pieces of bacon- not traditional pancakes as we expected would have been served in a traditional Irish resturant!!.. We ate them anyway as we were in a rush & hungry. Needless to say they hardly filled a hole. My partner was still hungry afterwards. When the member of staff asked us if everything was ok when settling the bill we asked if what was served was actually crepes & she said no that they were pancakes... Definitely not!!.. Staff need to specify to customers when ordering that they are crepes or indeed EXTREMELY thin pancakes or start to serve proper pancakes!!!
