It was closed for lunch on a weekend! I was surprised by this,I must admit. There is an admission fee as well which is unusual for Irish museums and public buildings.

Beautifully and sensitively restored Cathedral within walking distance of the main street, loads of interesting information inside outlining the key points of interest within the walls and building. The catherdral contains interesting graves some of which go back 700 years, influential and prominent Kilkenny inhabitants are buried here, a short summary of their lives captured on tombs and marble plaques. Well worth a visit, climb the tower to see views of city if you can. Lovely guides and plenty of information on offer

Second favorite thing in Kilkenny (after the brewery tour, which won't be around much longer). The cathedral itself is very nice (especially as it was one of the first we saw in Ireland, before got Cathedral burnout). Lots of gravestones inside, beautifully built, very historic, and it has President Obama's relative buried there. 4 Euro to see the cathedral.

The reason to come though is the round tower (3 Euro to climb). There are approximately 1 bajillion round towers in Ireland, but this is one of only two that you can actually climb up. It's a lot of steps, and there some really tight squeezes, but the view from the top is well worth the climb. The baby couldn't go up (he never would have fit), but it was pleasant enough taking turns hanging out with the baby in the graveyard.

Combo ticket for 6 Euro.

This is a bit away from the other sites in town, but make the walk to check it out, you won't regret it.
