Stayed here for 2 nights B&B with dinner on 1 night, courtesy of my daughter and her boyfriend. The hotel was quite old but was clean and comfortable. It had all you needed for a short stay, including a bath, which you don't often find in modern hotels. We ate there one night and the food was really good, but the best part of the hotel was the staff. They were friendly, welcoming, informative and genuinely interested in making sure you had a good visit, not only to their hotel but to their city. Kilkenny itself is one of the most beautiful cities I have seen in Ireland, the castle is well worth the tour. You will love wandering down medieval streets and lanes and taking in the sights, all within walking distance of the central hotel. Make time for a visit to Kytelers bar for lunch, the Left Bank for a drink, the Black Abbey and the castle for a guided tour. I will be back to Kilkenny and would stay here again.

Just returned from a two-night stay with my husband at the Club House Hotel. We are already planning our return. This is a very old-fashioned hotel with a fascinating hunting history. As charming as the building itself is, the staff is it's crowning glory. Everyone we met was more than happy to go above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The bedrooms could indeed do with updating; there is exposed pipework and the flatscreen tvs are very small with limited channels but if you can look beyond that- and who wouldn't want to when there is such a wealth of antiquity in this lovely old building- you will be charmed and feel the warmth of a genuine irish welcome. If uber-modern is your style then this gem is not for you, but personally I'd take a smiling face and a hot plate of the best full-irish breakfast I've had over boxed in pipework anyday.
We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was a delicious plate of pork belly with applesauce, savoy cabbage and boiled potatoes followed by a sundae glass of rhubarb trifle - real irish fare and I will definitely be back for more. This was served promptly and charmingly by the very efficient barmaid/waitress who couldn't do enough for us. We had a bottle of wine which following our meal we took with us to the snug and passed a further couple of hours chatting away without interruption.
Breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room where I would not have been surprised had one of Jane Austen's heroines walked in. It consisted of a self-service buffet of orange juice, yoghurt and cereals, followed by your choice of full irish - bacon, egg, sausage, tomato, mushrooms and pudding or fish catch of the day accompanied by any amount of hot toast and brown bread, tea/coffee. This was served to order by a charming lady who would grace any five star hotel anywhere.
We had dined on our first night in a nearby restaurant and had taken advantage of being able to purchase the chef's lasagne and take it with us as we wished to take it back home to Dublin. Geraldine, the Club House receptionist was more than accommodating in storing it in the hotel freezer until we were leaving. Again, she was very friendly, offering more than once to help us with our overnight bags up and down the several sets of steps to our room - another thing which added to the charm of the hotel but I can see how some people would find it an inconvenience. We are in our sixties and it didn't phase us.
Our bedroom and bathroom were adequate and clean with comfortable carpeting and spotless bedding and linens fresh each day. There was an adequate selection of toiletries and plenty of hot water for a bath whenever I wanted it.
Thank you to all the staff who made it look effortless but who we know worked so hard to ensure we had the lovely relaxing break we hoped for - we look forward to seeing you all again and best of luck with the match tomorrow!

The club house is a lovely old fashioned hotel. The wooden floors and creaky stairs give it a real sense of character that you don't find in the majority of bland modern hotels. Other positives were the car parking and its terrific location. We stayed at the back of the hotel in a newer part and for the price we were charged we were disappointed - the shower wasn't great and temperature difficult to regulate. Bathroom could do with an upgrade. Bed was comfortable though. I didn't enjoy my breakfast as i thought sausages too dry and bacon too chewy but my travelling companions enjoyed theirs. Coffee was not great (could be stronger) and the buffet minimal. The staff were really good though. I love the atmosphere of the hotel - especially the old part - but the value was not good (130 euro for double room)

I stayed here with my boyfriend and the rooms were very old fashioned. They were clean and well maintained just very dull.. Bathroom was very clean. There was no elevator just alot of stairs! Very maze like stairs. Staff were friendly. I didnt have any thing to eat here as i was attending a ball else where so i cant comment on the food.
