“Rhythm & Roots Festival”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Hi We came to Kilkenny for the rhythm and roots festival which I have to say is Amazing!!

The hotel is a little out of town approximately a 10 minute walk - we paid 10 euros one night for a taxi which I think was very overpriced! The hotel itself is lovely. Bar was nice, breakfast was amazing and a very nice touch for the manager to come round to see how we were getting on etc. The bed was very comfy and room very clean.

The pink chairs in the bedroom I did not like very much I'm afraid to say. Our room did not get cleaned as we had gone out in the morning and came back to the room at about 2pm and went for a swim (fabulous swimming pool) and got back to the room and the cleaners had not been although their trolley was in the corridor from the morning. They did come to clean our room at about 4pm at which time I was getting ready for the evening so turned them away - I think rooms should be cleaned in mornings.

Apart from the walk and the late cleaning service - hotel was fab.

I stayed here for a wedding with friends. Its a great hotel and we were made to feel very welcome. The meal was very nice and served quickly. Check in was efficient and staff were very pleasant. They provided cocktails on arrival and they were very nice.

The room was spacious rather than 3 beds squashed into a regular room. The decor was fresh and modern. The beds were comfortable. However, the room was very very warm and we were glad we were not on the bottom floor as we slept with the window open. It was still very hot with the window open though!

Breakfast the next day was great, a good selection of cereal, fruit, juice and yoghurt. The full Irish was lovely and service was great.

There is plenty of parking at this hotel and its a great location even though its 10 minutes from town. You can get to it through town and also via the ring road.

Just back for a short break in Hotel Kilkenny....We arrived a bit stressed as the 6 roundabouts we had to go through to find the hotel ended up a bit a bit of an extended road trip as we got lost ha....we arrived into the hotel, made a joke to the lovely smiling receptionist that greeted us, she was lovely and we were ungraded to a deluxe room....:)))

We opened the door to the deluxe room and wow it was absolutely huge, largest hotel room ever, it was lovely and led to a lovely courtyard....we had complimentary bottled water and fruit in our room.(nice touch).

We went and had bar food and it was really lovely, the waitress was very attentive and the bar staff very nice......the bar was busy serving food etc and we had a table in a quiet corner but wanted to watch the football on the large tv screen, again we joked about it to the waitress and as soon as a table became free she remembered us and moved us to it....

We went for a swim in the leisure center, fab pool....only negative point here, it was busy...as they had it set in lanes...would be better just opening up the whole pool...but we did enjoy it ..

Breakfast was really nice and a lovely room, again staff very quick to seat us , serve us ect...

Yes, we did enjoy our stay and I want to give the staff 10/10.....everyone is so friendly even down to the housekeeping staff who constantly greet you with a big hello each time you pass them ha...

Wish every hotel trained their staff as good as the Hotel Kilkenny....really makes you feel special.

Thank you.

Myself and my husband stayed in this hotel for 2 nights a few weeks ago.I've stayed in a lot of 4 stars(and I work in one as well) but I have to say, this is one of the best!!!Everything was just perfect! We were given a deluxe room with acces to the garden, the lady that checked us in was very friendly and professional(I'm sorry I can't remember her name). Our room was beatiful, the bathroom spotless,we had slippers and robes also.Breakfast was delicious,a lot of choice!I recommend the Greek yoghurt with apple and cinnamon,it tasted unreal! We had dinner in the hotel the second night, everything on the menu sounded great that it took me a while to decide what to have;our server was Jack, excellent at his job!The food was so tasty, well presented and the decor in the restaurant and bar very nice!We used the pool as well and the jacuzzi, very relaxing !The hotel is only a few minutes walk from town.We even found a great Indian nearby(my husband loves Indian food). The lighting is perfect everywhere in the hotel and the decor very classy!!I recommended this hotel to everyone I know and will definitely go back when I'll get the chance.Thank you so much for everything to everyone!Hotel Kilkenny,I take my hat off to you!!

The positives are that the advertised family room was indeed a large family room rather than the usual 3 beds sueezed in to a standard room. The reception staff were very helpful at check in.The leisure centre was great. The bad points were the breakfast service and the breakfast itself, both of which were fairly poor. They seemed understaffed, although I suppose thats not unusual in hotels these days.I've never seen a €30 charge for checking out after 12 noon before,do Ryanair own this hotel! The corridors were in near darkeness which seemed strange.

Finally, the list of what you can and cant do(another first) that is given to you when you check in is a bit off putting.Ryanair must definitely own the hotel! I know hotels have rules and regs, but when you've just paid €150 for the night, you just kind of expect things to be a bit more suttle and less in your face. The list would be just fine in a room folder, like every other hotel in the world.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for posting your kind comments about our Team here at Hotel Kilkenny we are always delighted to hear when people enjoy their time with us.
I can assure you that we are a 100% Irish Privately owned Hotel Group and not connected in any way to Ryan Air. With regards to the note your receive on arrival this outlines the opening time for our Bar, Restaurant and Pool areas etc... with no mention about any charges so I think maybe you are confusing this with something else.
Many thanks and kind regards

My husband and I stayed here in March during our first visit to Ireland. We made Kilkenny our base and stayed for 4 nights. The best features of this hotel was our room (we were upgraded to a deluxe room) and it was so roomy and comfortable with a massive cosy bed. The restaurant downstairs was spacious with excellent staff and service. The food was delicious and reasonably priced also. The downside would have to be the WiFi connection - in our room it was practically absent, in fact on one occasion we had to walk into the hallway and stand near the aerial to improve the signal! Down in the foyer and restaurant was only marginally better. I believe that this issue is a common one as there was a notice stating that the wireless internet is problematic frequently. Another downer was the parking. While there is plenty of spaces there also is a fitness centre on the same grounds as the restaurant and people using this centre park their cars in the hotel parking spaces. This was frustrating because when raining due to the longer distance having to walk to get to the entrance of the hotel. On the whole though, it was pleasant.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are further away and therefore the WiFi is worse.

Received menue with our drink,,great selection, ordered starter & main course, served at a respectful length of time,, it was cooked well, nice temperature, well presented, lovely.Ordered dessert, tea & coffee, again perfect. What I liked most was we got dessert first, & later the tea & coffee. All in all a lovely enjoyable evening with very friendly staff, great food at a affordable price . Well done to Hotel Kilkenny.
