I visited the Kilkenny Castle over the weekend and while we (as a family) thoroughly enjoyed the Castle and the grounds we were very disappointed by the tea rooms - from the service to the food. We arrived in at 2.30 so it was passed lunchtime and there were only two other tables in use. We asked what the soup was and two portions were ordered. I asked about GF options but was met by silence so I asked about the small salad and was told there was only one type and it was chicken so I ordered it. The soup was sour and awful and had to be returned. My salad arrived and it consisted of iceberg lettuce, 3 cherry tomatoes, 4 slices of cucumber and about 6 slices of mixed peppers. Boring and unimaginative to say the least, no chicken at all. When we went to pay it was €10.95 for the salad, absolutely appalling. The service was appalling, unfriendly and unhelpful. My advice is to eat in the coffee soup outside or bring a picnic!
