The history of this cave is worth the stop. Inexpensive admission. Please note you are entering a cave and wear appropriate shoes and take a jacket (waterproof). There are a lot of stairs to go down and up. We had to take a breather on the way back up.

Did not appreciate the guide bad mouthing where we were staying. Disagreed with him on that point.

There is an informative movie about the caves shown before the tour. The guide then explains interesting aspects of the history. The caves themselves are very impressive and hardly need commentary to be appreciated. The guide added a lot to the experience with his in dept knowledge and enthusiasm, not to mention allowing us to really know what it is like to be in total darkness.
There are interesting exhibits and a cafe at the entrance.

A horrifying story of how women and children ran into this dark hole, how they got down in the dark shows me how desperate they must have been..... only skeletons remained to show their existence. Aside from that the cave is amazing, full of different shapes and colors, huge boulders, huge rocks seeming to just hang as if weightless, sparkly bits if the weather is right and maybe a bat or two depending on the time of year. Treasure trove of all sorts, bringing the history to light for all of us to see. I wonder how many other treasure troves lie beneath the surface ?
The tour was well organised and the guide was full of interesting information, if only the coffee shop had been open on time I would have said full marks ( just a small thing, but still I was desperate for one )

due to road works we didnt think we would ever find this cave but we stuck to it and im glad we did.
be prepared for all the steps leading into the cave (700??)
but it is amazing and it helps having people working there that like their jobs and have an interest in the subject matter!!
We enjoyed this little adventure, my 7 year old loved it and found the steps easier than the rest of us!!
If you are down that way a trip to see the cave is a must!

We had driven past this area many times & finally decided to detour & have a look. Heritage Ireland had a special offer so there was no entrance fee for the first Wednesday in the month. Despite being free & being during the holiday season, (Aug '11) it wasn't overcrowded. The tour guide added to the enjoyment. There is an interesting display in the foyer area, which is light and pleasant. There's also a café there (but we didn't use it).
