“A great find”
Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

We were staying very close to Moone high cross and Tripadvisor located it as the nearest attraction. Tried to visit on Easter Sunday morning. Followed the signs but couldn't work out how to access the cross. After some research that evening we sussed that you drive on past the big house and park on the side of the road. Go in through a gap in the wall and you immediately see the old church wall. Very interesting attraction.

“Find It and Visit!”
Reviewed October 22, 2010

I visited on Monday, 4 October of 2010. I easily found it as it's well signposted from the town of Moone. I had the place all to myself which was lovely. Phenomenal 8th century high cross that’s the 2nd tallest in Ireland at 17.5 feet. Themes of the carvings on the cross are of the help of God. I’m glad for the protective glass roof but didn’t care for the placards, helpful as they were, actually being in the church (would have had better photos without them). Made it feel more like a museum than a sacred site. I suppose ultimately that’s what it is since the cross has been moved for its protection. The other end of the ruined church would have made for some beautiful photos…if it wasn’t for the fenced in conservation area. Still, all in all a very worthwhile stop…and free.

“Out of the way Beauty”
Reviewed December 9, 2008

We wandered around the countryside before finding the high cross at Moone. We stopped in the village and a very loquacious gentleman pointed us in the right direction.
The cross has been relocated to the center of the church and has a sheltering roof. It is very well delineated and we enjoyed trying to figure out the stories without reading the information.
The surrounding graveyard is small, with stones in various stages of decay. It was a pleasant stop on our way to Jerpoint.
