Just returned from a weekend in Banna. As a family of four we regularly go there during the summer months. Our trip consists of staying in the caravan park with lots of visits to the nearby beautiful beach. We decided to visit the hotel this weekend to sample the entertainment.....well where do I start, filthy is an understatement! The entire hotel needs a complete overhaul. Its dark, shabby and unwelcoming. The toilets were foul smelling & had faecal matter smeared on the walls and doors. Its a shame really because the place has great potential and is in an excellent location. On reading some of the reviews I have noticed similar reviews to mine dating back to early last year.....what is the management of this hotel waiting for !?!?

Just back from a week in Banna and thought id return the favour of passing on some info: -

Blessed with the weather we could have been in Lanz it was that hot so that deffo helped in every way however weather or not here’s my pros and cons:

Pros
1. Houses were spotless and spacious – I was worried cos some tripadvisor reports were bad but think they are from extremely fussy people (unless your going on hols to check out the curtain fabric and paint scuffs then sad for you).
All mod cons in house incl plenty of heating and hot water. Id bring a few little things with you for kitchen cleaning (t towels/ dwasher tablets/pegs/bar soap for loo etc).
Wahser/dryer and open fire in all houses. TV and DVD too. No hairdryers.
You can rent towels but we just brought our own – none in houses.
We stayed in the sand dune cottages – deffo better than the town houses cos you have a nice garden space where kids can play. (get one in the 80’s they are in a quiet cul de sac)
2. Pool was nice bit cold sometimes but perfect for what it needs to do. Baby pool and big pool. No issues with cleanliness etc you can but arm bands there if u want. Open 9-9 and free in for residents. Didn’t use gym or Jacuzzi but looked ok.
3. Bar – quiet and ok. We went off peak so only 2 nights had entertainment for the kids. It didn’t bother use cos of the weather the kids were in playground till all hours but if it was a rainy week might be a bit boring in evening. However they have entertainment 7 days a week from mid June. Beer garden is at fence of playground so u have enjoy a beer while the kids run free.
4. Pirate Petes – ball pool/climbing thingy. Not huge but adequate for an hour to wear out the kids. The pool and play barn are free to residents.
5. Shop onsite – not a huge selection but grand for a few basics’ Plenty of shops/of licences in Ardfert which is 5 min drive away so best to stock up there. On site shop best for kids sweets/buckets etc Also lovely playground in Ardfert.
6. Playground – grand could do with a few more things for the smallies but the sand kept mine busy and happy.

Cons:
Diner/Takeaway – do not go…..yuck yuck we only got a bag of chips and that was bad enough id hate to see the rest. We told them and it looks like this is always the case but they never change it. Apparently they do bar food in July/Aug but im not convinced id go there.
Beach Road – beach is lovely although the tide comes in very fast and leave you with virtually no beach at all. You can’t really walk to beach road is very dangerous so have to drive the 3 mins there.

All in all a great family location & great base for exploring Kerry will deffo be going back again.

Room Tip: get one in the 80’s they are in a quiet cul de sac

We had a wonderful family holiday here in February. The house was fabulous- 3 big bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen and living area. The house was really cosy- lovely and warm and very clean. Lots of space for the kids on their bikes and Flikrs. The swimming pool was really nice, with a lovely small kiddies pool. We also had the use of their indoor adventure playground which was a real treasure for those rainy February afternoons. The nearby beach was also a firm favourite for running up and down the sand dunes and shell collecting!
My only criticism would be with the pool side staff- one of my daughters cut her foot on a broken tile in the pool and was clearly distraught- however they did not come to my aid. I had to go and ask the lifeguard for a plaster- the first aid kit was empty, she then came back with really large plasters- which she proceeded to cut into smaller pieces, obviously not sterile any more, which were not waterproof, which meant each time my daughter tried to get back into the pool it fell off. She was so upset in the end that I just had to take her out of the pool and carry her back to the changing area.

the highlight was the kids entetainment at night and also for adults
the beach is about 3 minutes drive there is no walking path it was nice but was freezing we were lucky though that it was sunny
the location was very good 18 minutes drive to tralee and about one hour drive to dingle which is a must
they need to pay attention for minor things like a torn cushion case clean a stain on the curtain coz i know there is poople would give bad rating for these silly things
kids had a great time and they wanted to stay i would definatly go back again

Stayed here over Christmas, to be honest our expectations were low having read all the negative reviews. First off, the off peak rates for renting houses are competitive & the family had a great trip. However, looking at the peak season prices they are extremely high.

The houses are surprisingly big & well kitted out, even if they look a little a bit windswept on the outside. The staff were great, the indoor play leisure centre was open which is really close, the indoor pool was fine but did smell a little. The surrounding area is just stunning, the beaches are huge & really wild & had some amazing runs & cycles. Off peak means that some of the facilities are closed but we knew that in advance - so I cant comment on them. The kids had an absolute blast & the new years fireworks in Tralee were brilliant.

Would definitely recommend banna beach for off peak. i can see how peoples expectations are high if they were paying peak high rates. But with the proximity of the facilities & the stunning location it makes for a good family holiday.

Room Tip: Choose the newer cottages

We went her last july. There was 2 adults and 4 kids aged 8 4 2 new baby. The accomadation is very good very clean and good size. The cost of the kiddies club is a bit expensive for the acitvies that they do as they are all free if you do them with your own family anyway. The playzone could do with updating and more it it for yonger kids. there wasnt much int he playground either for my 2 year old he was a bit lost. This holiday is prefect for older kids with the football picthes close by too. the night time enterainment isnt great but do able. Down side was the beach is too far you would have to drive as it isnt a safe enough road really to walk. shop before you get there shop and restuarant were a bit over priced and not great. My kids wanted to go back this year but i couldnt do it as it rained every day too last year and there wasnt much to do when it rained.

Just booked my holiday with the girls in Banna again and cant wait, This will be our 8th time staying in banna. We are a family of 2 adults and 4 kids 4,7.9, and 11yrs old.... They just adore it, the pool, play areas and on a few occasions the older kids have done the kids club and loved every min, Its so active and the leaders are brill!! he houses are plenty big (ask for the new 3 bedroom sand dunes) and warm and if weather is not great the open fire option is fab. The thing we love mostly is how safe it all is, The kids make friends and can mix quiet safely on the complex area. The entertainment for kids is great fun, Sylvano the magician being the fav!! It can be on at 7.30/8pm thou which can be late for young kids, But we are on Holiday so!!!! The adult entertainment is well worth a look also, and the girls at reception will sort a sitter if needed (lovely girls and always done by local or staff members) The kids are allowed stay in the bar area untill the music has finished which is great, Roll on July 2013 Banna here we come AGAIN!!

Room Tip: Request a sand dune cottage. Request either near bar/play areas if want fast access to play areas or...
