I attended a family wedding in the hotel. As someone who is recently engaged, I would strongly advise any 'brides to be' against booking Ballyseede for your wedding if anyone in attendance has mobility issues or is in a wheelchair.

My father and two other guests were in wheelchairs. The toilets in the function room were completely inaccessible to wheelchairs (despite being assured in advance that they were accessible). When approached about this issue, the manager Rory was quite defensive and unsympathetic to the situation. Ramps are provided which a far too steep and unsafe. My father was forced to leave the wedding after a short time due to a lack of toilet facilities and the removal of ramps from the common areas. Despite raising this issue with management, no attempt at a reduced room rate or any gesture was provided to my parents on check out. My father has since written to Ballyseede but again, no attempt was made to empathise or reimburse.

I think the management of Ballyseede should take great care in assuring guests are aware of the abysmal wheelchair accessibility. I was entirely unimpressed.

Thank you again for raising this issue. We have discussed this at length before during and after the wedding mentioned. We the hotel were the first to raise the difficulties associated with moving around a listed building and offered every assistance on the day once the man's needs were mentioned. We invited a member of the family to come and look at the castle before hand to be sure it would be suitable but this didn't happen. As an owner and a son of a mother in a wheelchair for many years I am very aware of the difficulties associated with access and here at Ballyseede Castle due to the historic nature of the building and limited works that can be carried out. we have limited access but it can be overcome with assistance. Portable ramps are used as all floors are accessed by steps. The gentleman was offered a fully disabled designed room in our newly built Lodge as we felt this would be more comfortable for him, this was declined and we facilitated him with the most suitable room in the castle. They enjoyed a nights stay with us and we discussed the matter at length on departure. We have take your comments on board and are in the process of improving our access to the restrooms on that level. Thank you again for your helpful comments. Rory & Marnie

An absolutely awesome experience all around. We stayed at the Balleseede during our honeymoon and everyone made us feel like royalty. From the entrance we were impressed with the furnishings in the hotel, and then the food took it to another level. We actually ate at the castte all 3 meals and we absolutely were pleased. At Dinner a Pork Belly appetizer will be in my memory for a long time as one of the best things I have ever eaten ,absolutely decadent! We loved our room, so large and spacious. Tub and shower also luxurious and just all was pleasant. The grounds are beautiful, and I love the connection with nature at this hotel, their dogs are oh so cute and the mini horses too!

Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you had such a good experience. You managed to say in a few sentences what Ballyseede Castle is all about. A unique experience with good food, accommodation and friendly staff. We love the connection with nature and as a family who have small children the dogs, donkeys and horses add a different dimension to a stay at Ballyseede Castle. Rory & Marnie

Stayed in the Oriental Room. It was gaudy, noisy, hot and extremely tight to maneuver around the bed. Bed, itself, was very uncomfortable and creaky. The shower was smaller than many onboard cruise ships! Believe I got a touch of food poisoning the next morning from the eggs benedict, which ruined our travels for the next 24 hours. Skip this stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We were very disappointed to read your experience. You mention the smallness of the room and on checking your booking this is the room type you booked. As mentioned on our website the Cosy Castle Double Rooms are smaller square footage than our standard Castle Double rooms and this is always reflected in a better rate offered. The room you were in is call the Japanese Room and is actually very historic in that the art on the walls are genuine Japanese art. While to room is small it is sold as such, had you needed a larger room we would have been happy to change your room type if the request had been made. As you can see from other reviews our food is very good and prepared to order. I would think that the eggs Benedict was somewhat rich for you and a little heave for someone making a days journey. Thank you again for your feedback. Rory & Marnie

Ballyseede Castle was a FANTASTIC stay on our Honeymoon in Ireland! Beautiful castle and gorgeous grounds as well! We wished we could have stayed longer than one night! The staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was ready when we checked-in and we got a VERY large room as we had requested a Superior Castle Double Room. We even had a four-poster bed! The room was definitely romantic for our Honeymoon stay and we felt like royalty! We enjoyed a relaxing dinner with many Guinness in the bar room that evening and met some other guests on vacation and we all swapped travel stories! Even got to meet one of the castle dogs that evening in the bar, his name was Einstein! What a hoot, such a great dog! We got a GREAT night's sleep and each had the Full Irish breakfast delivered the next morning by room service! It was a joy to relax and have breakfast in the room! We would definitely stay at Ballyseede Castle again if we make it back to Ireland and highly recommend it to travelers. Thank you to Ballyseede Castle for adding the castle experience to our Honeymoon in Ireland!

Room Tip: Superior Castle Double Room was GREAT!!!

While Ballyseede is not a 5 star "Castle" it's comfortable and has a wonderful staff. We lucked out and were upgraded to a fabulous room - the Yeats Room.

Our favorite staff member was Esther, our waitress at breakfast. She has a great sense of humor and turned out to a great resource for helping us to plan our day. She really made our stay at Ballyseede.

We had dinner at the Castle both nights of our stay. The first night in the bar and the 2nd in the dining room. Food was good. Not gourmet but good.

Room Tip: The Yeats Room is wonderful.

Try to book a stay during the Rose of Tralee Festival! This is a magnificent place, although low-key and humble. I love the area behind the castle. . .there's a lovely pergola with an area of outdoor tables that have gentle lighting for a great ambience. The staff was wonderful and the food outstanding. The room was great (some people complained that their rooms looked out onto a wall, but ours was great, with a view of the front of the castle).

Room Tip: Think of getting a room higher up so that you can enjoy the pastoral views.

Thank you for your comments. The Rose of Tralee is a great time to visit, during an international festival. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us in good company. Yes, there are rooms on three floors all accessed by stairs given the historic nature of the building. It is worth looking at the accommodation page on the website as it shows most of the rooms and it can be seen that they are all individually decorated and unique. Thanks again. Rory & Marnie

We spent 3 nights at Ballyseede Castle it was a lovely experience from start to finish. Beautifully restored and decorated throughout. The grounds and surrounding areas were stunning. Our room was spacious and clean and we slept well. Food and service were good and made to feel welcome by freindly and attentive staff. There was a wedding taking place over our stay which didn't impact on us at all. Visited an italian restaurant (Bella Bia) in nearby town one evening that was also excellent. Would definitley visit again.
