I first visited the Tankard some 4 years ago, I was staying with a friend in Ardfert. I had never tasted such wonderful mussels. They are farmed locally in the Maharees. Not the rubbery sort of mussels one gets from your everyday so called seafood restaurant. These were bulbous and the sauce amazing. I was then introduced to the Scallops. The one shell with 3-4 scallops, amazing sauce and fluffy mashed potato make for a gastronomic delight.
It is a family owned restaurant, Mother and Sons and they work so hard, they should be excused if not always in the best of spirits. This would be a very rare occurrence but they are only human.
All of the above together with the best views, the water, the mountains and a great pint of the black stuff, make for an experience my family and I will go back year after year for. Thank you to all that make this a pleasure.
