We were shopping in Killarney when another shop keeper sent us to The Laurels Pub for lunch. It is located in the middle of the main shopping thoroughfare in Downtown, Killarney and 'looks' like your typical Irish Pub (shop front in Red/White) ... people were seen shooting photos of it often. Apparently popular with The Locals, this place has the same odor you can 'imagine' as 'Cheers' in Boston...it's well used..... really in need of a re-model. The older barkeep was jovial and helped make your visit 'memorable' (for more reasons then one). We had 2 salads, 1 chowder, 1 soup (but, charged twice) and a couple of Guinness & 1 cider= total 34.65euro.....that included a 4.40 euro "built-in tip" by double charging for the 1 soup. Sadly, went unchecked till this writing- worse- we left 3euro more as the real tip. Lucky as 'Filthy Rich Americans' (LOL) we could afford 'the sting'. This might be regular practice here as another woman ordered a pint, to my right, and once paying, returned to the bar to complain she was short changed. Shame as IF that is the program here, in an obvious Tourist Town, -The Word- WILL Get Out, eventually.

This is a good Restaurant. Booking is recommended. Plenty of choice on the menu. We were not rushed at any time.

The food in this bar/restaurant ( menus are the same in each ) is top class.. The Monkfish Thai Curry is a beautifully prepared dish and a must try!! The Potato Cakes also are a lovely offering.. Desserts are all homemade and utterly yummy!!!!. Staff are well trained and have a natural ability to strike up a chat. There are sports shown on television at a volume that does not encroach on ones conversation.. This establishment is an example of true Irish hospitality.. good food, good pint, good staff, good conversation... A must visit when in Killarney!

Had a quick bite of lunch here on a few occasions for a fiver. They do a solo special offer giving the solo traveler a bite of lunch for €5. It is usually a pie but well cooked, great for a not-so-warm Irish summers day!

Not a pleasant experience for something we were looking forward to all day!! We were told by a young waiter once we sat Down that we needed to go back to the bar to order our drinks! I had chunks of warm Brie for started which was still cold and solid cheese on the inside. My partners chicken wings were pretty tasteless. For main he had the T bone steak again it was cold and fairly underwhelming!! I had the chicken wrapped In Parma ham it was so dry and again fairly underwhelming. We waited for a portion of chips which we filled ourselves up on before heading off fairly disappointed. We later said to a local how disappointed we were, she replied that not many locals would go to the laurels, says it all really! Not worth the money.
