“What a fantastic hotel”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Stayed here for 3 days while celebrating a family hotel. It was perfect in every way. It is right in the middle of Killarney beside the train station. It is very quiet so don't worry about train noise. The hotel has character which is always a delightful change.
The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The food is fabulous. We arrived the day before the wedding and there was another wedding on, but you would never know. The weddings take place in a part of the building away from the main hotel. The breakfast is faultless. The room we had was perfect. Plenty of room for clothes etc. It is spotless and very comfortable. If we come back to visit Killarney we will definitely stay here. The price is very reasonable too which always helps.

Wonderful welcoming hotel, excellent service and value, exceptional food and rooms, sensational location, all within Killarney, an example of a town which is forward thinking on how to respect tourism, both socially and financially into ensuring tourists making return trips. Extremely friendly. Only quam was the food quality on the totally unrelated ring of kerry bus tour which was educational and should not be missed.
The hotel grounds are exceptional and include plots of vegetables and herbs which support local special needs kids.
During our stay to attend a wedding we visited many local hotels used by fellow wedding attendees, some being 5* we all felt that the Malton out shone all other hotels in Killarney.
Well done to the management and staff of the Malton.

Room Tip: Three sister's and a husband got a interlocking room which left it much easier to socialise

Stayed there last weekend. On checking in we were met by a man who had no manners at all...he definitely should not be on reception, no such thing as a hello ,welcome and when i asked him some information he rudly replied with wrong information back
..two of his colleagues then appeared who were very nice.
On making our booking I had requested a large room due to having a four year old with us...
When we got our room 477 it was so small and i really did not like it. Bed comfortable tho.
I asked about a larger room i was told i would have to pay a supplement. I had already paid alot for a Monday night.
On the positive...the food is amazing...
And the kids club was really good too.

My husband and I stayed in the Malton in August and while the rooms, service and food were excellent, we found that even at 9.30pm, the bar and lobby were full of children and it was impossible to have a relaxing drink anywhere as the reading room/library was full of people, presumably trying to escape the crèche atmosphere. We brought our children on holidays with us when they were younger but never let them run around disturbing other guests late at night. I feel that the hotel needs to cater for all guests. The website promised a relaxing break but I'm afraid it didn't deliver on this occasion.

When we first booked the room it seemed like it was an old building but renovated to keep up with the times. We opted to pay more to stay there because of the location and wanting to experience the history. Not worth it.

My wife and I were first given a room right outside of the playroom they have set up. That may be great for a family but we were not looking forward to being kept up all night by screaming kids. They did promptly change our room but we had challenges with the next one as well.

Housekeeping had kept a window open and throughout the evening, and sadly well into the night, we were having to kill bees that come into the room before we had gotten there. And since the A/C was nonexistent, we had to choose between sweating it out and being fearful of being stung.

This place could use an overall and with what they charge per night they should easily afford to do it.

Avoid.

For the most part, I liked the Malton a lot. It was perfectly located, and it was a lovely hotel with a lot of ambience. My room was good, the food in the dining room was very good, and the bar was equally nice. My only complaint was the noise from wedding parties that went on loudly until 5 or 6 a.m. I have no problem with the wedding party, but I feel hotel management should take it into consideration when assigning rooms. My room faced the pavilion where the wedding was held, and due to the room being a little too warm, with no AC, I had to leave the window open. Definitely it interrupted my sleep. Had it not been for this, it would have been a perfect stay.

Room Tip: Try to make sure you are not facing the pavilion if there are any weddings taking place.

Spent 5 days in June 2013, we stayed when the weather was at time very good & everything was at it's.
The staff in the hotel where very helpful and made our stay as if one was at home from home!
Food was plentiful and had a great variety of choice both in Bar & Dinning Room, the wine list was endless and I believe most people would fined wines to their liking at a price.
Location was very central to Killarney Town and next door to the Train Station, good car parking at hotel.
Require information on trips or things to do you came to the right place, as all your needs will be well taken care of by the very courteous concierge as nothing was to much for her Gracie's attention.
Finally the good wine I kept till last , the accommodation was everything that one would expect of a hotel of this standard, great sleep , breakfast in bed , and all at a good price.
I would recommend this hotel only to my friends to keep it to ourselves!
Killarney has a lot to offer for visitors but this hotel was the icing on the cake
A couple spending their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

Room Tip: Let the hotel staff know what you require & I always found they come up trumps' Garden view?

Dear James, Many thanks for your great review and so glad you enjoyed your 5 day stay with us and that you would recommend us to your friends. We take great pride in our team here at The Malton and delighted you had the true Malton experience. Our guest services manager Mary Mac was most likely the concierge you refer to in your review and nothing is too much for Mary when it comes to our customers. I'm glad you found our wine list extensive and hope you also found time to experience our Killarney Wine Rooms which offers our customers a wine cellar with a difference as its inter active and allows customers to sample top quality wines in beautiful Victorian surroundings. Again sincere thank you and belated golden wedding anniversary congratulations. Best Regards, Jennifer Egan, Digital Marketing Analyst
