Some of the best scenery I've ever seen - this is exactly what you picture for rugged Irish country side. We got the jaunting cart all the way to the 4th lake - you may as well do it the old way :). This is a must to see I have to say

We drove to Dunloe then got on a horse and trap to go up to the Gap of Dunloe. It was great beautiful views and scenery. It took about 2 hours but is was well worth it. Would recommend it.

Absolutely stunning scenery with the combination of lakes and mountains. Make sure if driving to go before 9a.m or after 7 pm as the jarveys occupy the very narrow road between these hours and they make no allowance for any vehicular traffic.....so dont let them spoil your enjoyment.

We didn't have a lot of time in Killarney so we decided to do the Gap of Dunloe in our rental car. You should not attempt this during the day. The road is very narrow and there are lots of horses and jaunting carts going through. It would be very awkward. They stop around 6pm, so if you head over around 7:30pm you will have the Gap almost to yourself. We drove through and only saw 5-6 other cars while we were there. Plenty of time to stop and take amazing pictures with no one in sight. You can't miss the Gap! You don't have to share it if you go at the right time.

Driving though here in the evening with the sun low in the sky on a warm summer's day is just wonderful. Not to be missed if you get the chance.
