“Amazing B&B with Great Hosts/Breakfast in Gateway to Ring of Kerry”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

Amazing B&B in Killarney at the gateway to Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry. Hosts were very friendly and gave much advice. Their home is absolutely bueatiful (extremely modern, clean, great furniture, clean/modern bathrooms) and was one of our favorite B&Bs in Ireland. Set just outside the city center (less than 15 minute walk to main restaurants/pubs)... Went with two other guys and we liked how we could walk into town for dinner/pubs and walk back with no problem. Only slight issue: triples are double+single. We decided to stay two nights (instead of one) since we found the B&B to be great. Several breakfast choices in the morning makes this place a true gem. Place is great for couples, families, or friends. Planning on staying again in the future when I travel with my father.

We loved Sika Lodge. Serena's enthusiasm is infectious. She gave us great advice about restaurants and activities. The breakfasts were lovely. She was wonderful about accomodating dietary restrictions and did some special baking for my son's breakfast. The decor is modern and comfortable. There is a nice public space with a large library of books and DVDs. We stayed in 2 other B&Bs and one hotel during our 10 days in Ireland and this was our overall favorite.

Sika Lodge B&B was perfect in every way. Adam and Serena were very friendly and gave us information for tours and driving whenever we needed it. Breakfast food was excellent in taste and presentation. Home decor attractive and modern. Comfortable beds.

My parents and I booked two nights at this B&B, and it was so wonderful, we decided to stay a third. The property is lovely, it's close to town, and the hosts are delightful. Upon our arrival, Serena met us with scones (incredible!) and drinks on the patio. She is from the area and had many good suggestions for activities, especially nice was Valentia Island on the ring of Kerry. Rooms and baths are modern and nicely decorated. Breakfast was the highlight of the day--porridge, pancakes, smoothies, the full Irish, and smoked salmon, plus more of Serena's wonderful scones. Our best stay in Ireland!

We spent one night here during our 11 day vacation to Ireland and this was best lodging we had. The hosts are outstanding, and the house is new, the breakfast was great, and the price was standard for a b&b.

The house is immaculate and clean, and the beds were comfy. The hosts were able to give us some helpful info on driving the Ring of Kerry and for places to have dinner in Killarney. They had a few things to choose from for breakfast, unlike many other B&B's that only offer the Irish breakfast and a continental breakfast.

I don't have anything negative to say about this place. I would note two things that may bother some people:

1. The house is near a fairly busy road (at least during the day). We had a room that faced the road and it wasn't a problem for us, and the traffic is much less in the evening. If you need absolute quiet you should consider this.

2. It is about a 15 min walk to town. We did it, even at night, with no issues. You walk by a nice park and a very big church. But if you don't want to walk or drive to town, consider that.

Overall, this was outstanding, and we both felt it was the best lodging we had when we were in Ireland.

The good:
- owners. They are a great couple, so warm and welcoming :)
- nice rooms, with TVs, nice bathrooms too, decorated with taste
- breakfast was good, you get to choose from an Irish breakfast, pancakes, toasted bagel with smoked salmon and white cheese and eggs with bacon. We tried the first three and everything was good.
- there is a bottle of whisky, which you can drink in the living room
- there is also a library of DVD's and books

The so so:
- location. Its about 15 mins walk from the town center and its right beside a busy road, so you can hear the noise from the road IF you open the windows
- this is a typical Irish house, meaning that you can hear people above you and people below you.

Overall a very nice stay.

Things we did when in Killarney:
- the trekking to the Gap of Dunloe. You pay 30 EUR pp and they drive you to the start of the trail. You then have a choice to either take a jaunting car (extra cost) or walk 12 km. We walked and had time to take photos and admire the views. You end up in a little resting place, with food and drinks. After a short break a boatman (with their dogs on the boat :) ) takes you through all three lakes to the Ross Castle, where a driver takes you back to town or to your accommodation.
- we rented two bikes from OSullivan for 15EUR pp. They have lots of bikes to choose from, even for tall people like us. Great service too. We went to the Muckross house, the abbey and then around the Muckross lake, which is around 22km ride (counting from Killarney). Its prob one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen in Ireland. The unspoiled nature, the views...

We ate in La Rambla, which is a decent spanish restauarant. My wife had the biggest grilled seabass ever and I had loads of tasty tapas - all that with Sangria! :)
