The Muckross Abbey inside the Killarney National Park is a historic treasure. We passed it on our Jaunting Car trip and heard the history and the ghost lore about the Abbey. The grave yard holds famous Irish poets

Go there early in the morning or late at night, and go searching for ghosts!
The ruin is setup to be safely explored, and the views from the top are great.
A wander through the graveyard shows headstones from hundreds of years ago, and some recent.

Spent hours here. This Abbey at its height must truly have been something. There are so many details to find here including some famous Irish poets. The abbey is in excellent shape for a ruin.

A perfect opportunity to explore the Abbey on a rainy day. The docent was informed and our group was small so there was plenty of time to ask questions. Beautiful grounds as well.

We were visiting in October and it was a rainy day. We took a jaunty ride though the park to the Abbey and Torc waterfall and the Muckross house. Our driver was interesting telling us stories about the park and area and very patient while we spent time in areas when he stopped. The Abbey was very interesting.

This amazing place is a must to explore. It is completely open. They allow you to investigate the upper tower rooms. The courtyard has an incredible feeling, a mix of awe, peace, yet creepy. The reflection room is not for faint of heart, complete blackness.

Was not expecting a lot, but this Abbey is is in really good condition compared to a lot of others we saw when visiting Ireland. Seeing the 600 year old yew tree in the cloisters was worth the visit alone! Treat yourself and take one of the jaunting cars up to the Abbey - that made the visit even more of an experience.

This Abbey was so amazing. Has a tree of life still growing in the middle of it. Many roofs are off but the walls are still in tack and you can climb to the top floors. Doors were still on as well.

The house tour and strolling around the gardens are a must do visit to Killarney. We also saw the red deer. Very beautiful place.
