“History well preserved”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

When we visited Killarney Natl. Pk. and Muckross Gardens, we took a leisurely stroll over to the ruins of the Abbey, and we were surprised to learn that it is surrounded by a still active cemetery.
The Abbey itself is in remarkably good shape and worth a look; and unlike Ross castle (another ruin in the park), it is free and not commercialized.

“plenty of sights to visit on the property”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

The house was very interesting. The wealthy owners almost went bankrupt preparing for several years prior to Queen Victorias visit to the estate in the late 1800's. We love to visit these great mansions from the Victorian era. The grounds had extensive gardens, a lake and ruins of an Abbey.

“Well worth the walk down”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Well worth the walk down to the Abbey, it's nice to get away from the shops and tourist traps of the main house. There's a nice path through the forest along by the lake that is worth taking on the way!

“Found it by accident - glad we did”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

While riding bikes in the National Park we stumbled quite accidentaly upon it. It is in ruins but you will remember the beautiful gothic arches and imagine what life was like in the old abbey.

“Worth a Visit”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

If you are in Killarney, then take a short drive, walk or horse-cart ride to the Abbey. These are old ruins, with a graveyard. The ruins are interesting, with many passageways. The main courtyard contains an old yew tree and there is a vaulted cloister.
