The price to take the small motorboat out to the island and back seemed a little steep, but since we were on vacation, we decided to splurge. Once on the water, we were immediately happy with our decision. Innisfallen Island is close enough to the shores that deer and other animals can swim to it, but it seems like you have been transported to a forgotten world.

The abbey ruins are just ruins, but are very picturesque. The 30 minutes that the boat captain gives you to walk around could seem like an eternity to some, but with its gorgeous scenery, we could have stayed out there to explore for hours. Well worth the trip. However, for those with children that need constant stimulus to be entertained, you may skip this one and stay around Ross Castle.

My review on Ross Castle included this great Island and the two religous structures. Really a great one hour excursion. The boat trip is 10 euros/person. I would think a group could negotaite a better price. Really fun to get on the water.

Found a ride out to the island and spent an hour walking around, exploring the ruins. Very nice.

What history! Like the Skelligs, you wonder how monks found this remote island and established a community so rich in history. And more so, how the vikings seemed to find and sack it over and over! Don't miss it. Take your time and walk around the island. It's simply breathtaking. We had it all to ourselves when we went - such a gift.
