Owner description: This 15th-century castle is the subject of numerous historical myths, including that of a ghost who still makes appearances at the castle.

We visited several castles on our trip through Southern Ireland, included Blarney and Kilkenny, but this one in Killarney is not to be missed. The breadth of knowledge of the tour guide and all the interesting history she imparts, makes this a must visit if you are in this area.

We haven't done too many tours on our vacation, rather picking-and-choosing certain ones. This one, with a low cost of 4e each, sounded like it might not be too rewarding, but it actually was. For a short 30 minutes, you learn quite a lot about what life was like, living in a tower house. The tower has been restored, using autentic measures, meaning using things like wooden pegs instead of nails and bolts, and it is quite interesting to make you way up through each level to see what lies inside. They have also retained some autentic furniture from as early as the mid-14th century to show you what it would be furnished like.
Worth the 4e easily.

we didnt do the tour but we enjoyed the morning sun sitting next to the castle at the lake. if you want to do the national park sightseentour(abbey, cottage, waterfall) leave the castel out, it takes around 2h more because there is no direct trail between abbey and castle... you have to take the mainroad what means you have to return to killarney center...

Fully and acurately restored. Entrance by guided tour only and for good reason. I usually skip anything with a guided tour but this was fascinating and well worth the wait. No cheesey gift shop. Mind your head!

We visited on Sunday morning, before anything was open. The grounds are lovely, even in winter and we took a horse-drawn coach ride through the park to and from the castle.
