“Fantastic Family Run Hotel - An Absolute Must for Anyone Visiting Killarney”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

My wife & I have just returned from a weeks holiday at The Old Weir Lodge in Killarney.

We booked our stay here based on the many Trip Advisor reviews that we had read and we can honestly say that our stay here surpassed our expectations.

We would particularly like to thank the owners Maureen and Dermot, their son Niall, Aileen (front desk) and Eileen (our waitress for most of our stay) in fact all of the staff were excellent. We were greeted every morning and on our return to the hotel each day with a cheery smile and throughout our stay we felt totally relaxed and at home. In our view this has to be one of the best of the smaller hotels, if not THE best hotel we have ever stayed in, The hotel offers very clean and tidy spacious bedrooms, well decorated and maintained community areas, good quality and choice on the breakfast menu and by far the most polite and friendly staff we have ever met. Our hats go off to Maureen and Dermot, because their management skills and technics are replicated by all of their staff.

The hotel is perfectly located and is just a five or six minutes level stroll into Killarney town centre. and Killarney itself is an ideal base for touring Killarney National Park, The Ring of Kerry, The Dingle Peninsula and much more.

Our bedroom was at the front of the hotel and was extremely large, very clean and nicely decorated and it is great that the hotel provides two lounges for their guests to sit and relax in after a day out enjoying the beautiful countryside.

This hotel is well worth its 4 Star Irish Tourist Board and 5 Diamond Rating from the AA and is excellent value for money. We have stayed in a variety of 4 Star (large and small)hotels and guesthouses in the UK and abroad who charge a higher rate than The Old Weir Lodge but offer much smaller bedrooms and very little, if any, guest lounge facilities.

Whatever you are coming to Ireland to see and do, Killarney has everything to offer the first time visitor. There is an abundance of level tracks for you to walk or cycle through Killarney National Park, or why not treat yourself to a Jaunty cart ride, of which there are many to choose from around, the town, the lakes and through the mountains (Gap of Dunloe). The scenery in and around Killarney is breathtaking, but don’t just take our word for it, ask Maureen, Dermot and their team - they love to help you to enjoy your stay here.

We have friends and relations who are looking to visit Ireland and we will have no hesitation in recommending the Old Weir Lodge to them.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel do have a nice view, however with the windows open you can somet...

+ This B&B is an lovely old house, though it is quite big so you do not get a intimate atmosphere. Good facilities with a small pub, nice dining room for breakfast, and the staff is very kind and helpful. Large spacious bedrooms and bathrooms with comfortable king sized beds.
Plenty of free parking and a good spot to explore the surrondings.

- The location is just outside the town centre, and it takes about 10 min walk to reach the centre of Killarney. Otherwise nothing negative.

We've seen hotels at every continent, from luxary to basic, from business hotel to family hotel. Now we've found it: Old Weir Lodge, excellent rooms, an Irish breakfast beyond imagination and above all a staff that will not rest until you are satisfied, provided with the best information or given that extra bit of service. They are just too kind!

have just got back from a five day stay at the old weir lodge, it is a very impressive looking bed breakfast hotel, flowers everywhere which is common in kilarney very clean and colourful. The room which we had was a deluxe room which was excellent clean modern and good extras like iron, kettle and hairdryer,we were out the front although near a busy road it did not cause any problems. The breakfast was good the only negative was being rushed a little and if you went down nearer 10pm you felt a little pressurised into eating your meal quickly waitresses flitting about and not really keyed into making conversation. Will mention eileen i think her name is on the reception she was really professional and helpful with helping us with a day out we wanted to do.Kilarney and the people were lovely will go back again.

Room Tip: all rooms would be ok

We stayed at the Old Weir Lodge on a recent trip and asked for a 7:30 a.m. wake-up call so we would have time to go to all of the stops we had planned the next day. We woke at 9:15 never having received a wake up call. As if that wasn't bad enough, the innkeeper then argued with us both on the phone and at check out that the call had been "put in the system" and never once apologized for their error. A simple apology or an offer to help us get on our way quickly would have been much appreciated, but apparently those courtesies don't happen at the Old Weir Lodge.

We stayed here for three nights and it was the best B & B on our trip around Ireland. Dermot and Maureen were the most friendly people we have met. We had a fantastic room on the front with a huge bay window to sit in. The room itself was very large together with a lovely large bathroom, all being spotlessly clean. The breakfast was very good and there was a large selection on the buffet. Nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were very loyal and helpful. The trip to the Gap of Dunloe was out of this world and can be booked with Dermot and Maureen as Dermot runs the trips. A coach picks up from the Old Weir Lodge takes you to the start of the Gap - where you can have a jaunty ride, but do as we did and walk the Gap, its not at all strenuous and the scenery is again breathtaking. It takes about two and a half hours and is about 7 miles long. At the end you get to Lord Brandon's Cottage to catch the boat back along the lake (5 miles) to Ross Castle where the bus picks you up and takes you back to the Old Weir Lodge - couldn't be easier. Dermot's brother was our boatman and he has some fantastic tales to tell. All in all the best stay of our holiday. Well done to the O'Donoghue family for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Stayed in this wonderful B&B over the weekend for the Ring of Kerry Cycle. Had the best time. All the stafff so helpful and accommodating, could not do enough for us, from storing our bikes to 5.30am breakfast to filling our flask for our journey home.
Perfect location 5 min walk from town centre and very close to muckross.
The rooms and public areas were super clean, very comfortable bed, fantastic powerful shower with endless supply of hot water, Breakfast was excellent with a great selection(better than alot of hotels I've stayed in) they even had freshly made waffles!!!! Thank you to all in the Old Weir Lodge - we will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the B&B are quieter
