Stayed (unfortunately) only one night at Friars Glen on July 25. The place is lovely, nested in Killarney national park, very close to the ring of Kerry. It is quiet and peaceful, the room we stayed in was large and confortable, the breakfast was very good, with a buffet as welll as a "a la carte" menu, excellent crepes. But what makes this place truly special is John and Mary. We were greeted on the parking by John a few minutes after we arrived and we got to talk with him in the evening and the next day on our way out. If you think about the hundreds of people going through these doors and staying at this place, it looks like John and his wife always find some time to welcome and get to know their guests, you can feel it is not fake but it is obviously who they are, the contrast with other guest houses or inns we stayed in (see my review of Ariel house in Dublin) is striking. The nearby ring of Kerry is beautiful, we enjoyed it even more following John's advices (Valencia island for instance is worth the trip). We did not want to take our car to have dinner in Killarney ( a few miles away): John recommended going to Molly Darcys, which is walking distance from the inn and we did not regret it, we had a nice dinner with live irish music and a couple of traditioanl irish dance performers. If you read these lines, John, thanks for everything, if we go back to Killarney we will spend the night at your place again for sure!

We were welcomed by Bridget with a cup of tea and cake upon our arrival. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, very clean and nicely appointed. The breakfasts were very good, with a nice selection. The location was great , and parking very good. The only negative I have is that the walls seem thin – it is a purpose built establishment vs. an older building with thicker walls, so you can easily hear other guests. The plus side of this is that the wi-fi was good, which it wasn’t in some other places due to the thicker walls. There had been a problem in the town on the morning we left and some roads were closed. Mary was very nice to ensure we knew a route around the town so that we wouldn’t be delayed going to our next destination. This was much appreciated.

Mary and John were perfect hosts. Their home is special and beautiful. The location is walkable to Muckross house, abbey, and Very near Killarney. They beautiful rooms, excellent service by Bridget at breakfast as well as her helpful tour advice made us feel welcomed. We stayed 2 nights as we came from Cork and wanted to have a home base for a few days. We enjoyed the deer in the back head as we dined, Dandy & Holly the family dogs were special as we missed our retriever at home. I sat by the warm fire one night with wine so wonderful. We walked to Molly Darcy for dinner excellent and easy. After driving so ling we wanted a rest from the car! Now off to Cliffs of moher. Thanks to John, Mary & Bridget for making our stay and our 30th anniversary so special!

A elegant country house style B&B within Killarney National Forest. From the welcoming tea by the sitting room fire, to the sumptuous full Irish breakfast--the warm hospitality of owners Mary and John are evident as they welcome you into their smartly appointed inn.

Friars Glen is quietly and restfully nestled away from the bustle of Killarney town, but close enough to easily drive into the city center with a recommendation or two from John for dinner or sightseeing. Just ask Bridgett for how best to tour the Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula and she will bring out a full map of the area with recommendations for all the best sights--delivered with the pride of a County Kerry native.

We've stayed at plenty of B&Bs in our day, but this ranks as amongst the best (and maybe the very best of all) on overall experience and value. Ambiance, facilities, food, location, warmth, and genuine friendliness--oh, did I mention the food?--were all just brilliant.

Visit and stay a few days...you will be glad you did.

From the moment we turned onto their long tree lined drive way, I was completely enchanted. Friars Glen is a beautiful country inn that is both charming and inviting and classy and luxurious at once. After being shown to our rooms our gracious hostess Mary invited us to tea in the parlor. After serving us she asked what our plans were and gave us some great tips about how to get around, best places to park, eat, ect. Our rooms were immaculate. The bed linens were of fine quality and the bathroom was very spacious. The view from our room of the beautifully landscaped grounds was amazing. Breakfast was delicious as well. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. There is so much to do in the area.
