“Wonderful B&B and lovely hostess!”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

Very nice place to stay about 5 minute drive from the center of Killarney. Hosts, John and Mary were wonderful. Breakfast was very good. Common rooms very lovely, with fire in lounge at night. Breakfast room overlooks the garden where you can eat in good weather. Rooms were large, but decor a bit dated. Wifi in lounge only and went off at 11 pm, but we told the hostess and she was going to look into that. Plenty of parking. Walking distance from Muckross House and Garden which is lovely. Would stay here again!

The setting is magnificent in the national forest, and Mary and her husband obviously made full use of the nursery they run next door. The plantings were fabulous. The facility is immaculate, and the common area with an attractive hearth fueled by peat logs is comfy. The new wing is separated from the original house by a separate staircase, but the whole place is less than 20 years old. Breakfast was served promptly in the 3-season porch overlooking the lawns; a perfect place for a wedding or reception. Mary was very accommodating and pleasant. Loved their 2 dogs as well!

Room Tip: Both wings were equally nice, but I'd suggest staying on the second floor for the view.

We can't say enough about our stay at Friars Glen - one of the best places we've stayed anywhere in our travels in Europe for value. Set in a beautiful, peaceful, serene setting. Close enough to the hustle and bustle of Killarney yet worlds away! The food was incredible, with a beautiful room overlooking the grounds, and Bridgette, who served our breakfast every morning was incredibly helpful with tips and suggestions, always going above and beyond what we expected! Centrally located to many attractions, a quick walk to a nearby pub and to beautiful walking trails around Killarney Lake, it really is an ideal place to set up camp for several days. Mary and John were fabulous hosts who took great care to make you feel welcome right from our arrival.

We have stayed in many B&B's across Europe, UK and North America over the years. Friars Glen is definitely one of the 'top three' in which we have stayed. John and Mary Fuller are great hosts and made us feel instantly welcome upon arrival and throughout our stay. The location in the Killarney National Park provides an idyllic setting for the property and assures guests of 'pitch black' and completely quiet nights for an absolutely perfect night's rest and a relaxing escape from the rest of the world. The property is spotlessly clean in every respect, roomy and very comfortable….exactly what we wanted. Breakfasts are outstanding and served in a beautiful setting overlooking the meadow and forest. We stayed at Friars Glen for three nights with two adult children. All of us enjoyed the visit immensely. Friars Glen would be our first and perhaps only choice of accommodation in Killarney. We highly recommend Friars Glen to anyone who is visiting the area...you will not be disappointed!

This is a small treasure tucked away on the outskirts of Killarney in a peaceful rural setting but a very convenient 10-12 minutes drive from town.Mary and Brigid were outstanding hosts - friendly, helpful and ready to dispense useful advice and maps of walks and things to do.The rooms are spotless. The guest lounge, complete with books, fireplace, and ticking clock; well I just wanted to roll up and bring it home with me. Oh, and memorable breakfasts too. If any angels are out there looking for a spot to fold their wings and rest - look no further.
