Smack dab in the middle of Killarney, this hotel is an oasis. It is family run. Service impeccable and friendliness and personal attention to its clients cannot be surpassed. It is a good location in that It is close to good restaurants that are within walking distance, lots of shops, near sights such as Killarney National Park, etc.and a good starting point for day trips. Wonderful home cooked breakfasts included also. Highly recommend this quaint hotel if you are staying in Killarney. A real plus is that if you are driving, there is a parking lot that is a few blocks from the hotel and is included in the price.

Room Tip: A room facing away from the busy street is preferable. The acoustics are not wonderful in that it is...

This hotel is idealy located in the centre of Killarney. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with a friendly smile and welcome. The room was large but basic(we actually had room 210 like the last reviewer!). There was a surprisingly good selection of food for breakfast, not just the usual full Irish. The staff in the dining room were very friendly and efficient. Buckley's bar which is attached to the hotel is nice bar and has live music on some nights, but it is lively even without this.

We stayed as a party of 7 for three nights in September. First impression of the hotel was very good. Great location and a very warm welcome from the reception staff. The 'old-fashioned' character of the hotel makes it very different from other hotels in the town. It has a homely feel about the place and not like a generic hotel that would be twice the price.

Breakfast and the choice of selection was very good. Betty and the staff were always on hand to make sure you started the day with a good breakfast. We had one evening meal at the hotel and the quality of food was superb - like home cooked food with style. Granny's rice pudding went down a treat!!!

The bar connected to the hotel was great. Good selection of beer and music in the evening made the stay even better.

Overall the rooms were of a good standard, however, the second floor room that we stayed in (room 210) does require some updating. The lighting in the room could be improved as there is not much natural light and the overhead lights do not offer much light in the evening. The wallpaper had become stained and starting to come away. However, other members of our party did stay in the rooms that have been updated and were of a very good standard. So I assume the rest of the hotel rooms will be updated.

Overall, an excellent hotel and would definately stay there again. A special mention to Betty, who is a credit to the hotel and made our stay very special.

In August I spent four days in the hotel with my "Golden Girls" friends. The hotel was only five minutes walk from the station and right in the centre of town. We were very impressed when on arrival we were served complimentary tea with homemade scones and ginger cake. Fantastic staff, very friendly and good humoured and extremely helpful. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The food served both in the dining room and the bar was superb. We felt that all the quality awards received by the hotel were truly deserved. The traditional music sessions in the bar on Wednesday and Saturday nights added to the enjoyment. Looking forward to going there again.

Room Tip: better view to front of house

The Arbutus had a very warm old-time feel. It was filled with antiques and warm comfy pieces that were shabby in a nice way. The staff is very nice and welcoming, eager to help or advise us.

Our room was lovely! It was essentially a suite, with a desk, table and chairs and armoire in the second area. The bathroom was SO beautiful. There was a fantastic deep soaking tub for a wonderful bubble bath. The stall shower was really nice, a little odd that the control was facing the door so a bit difficult to get set. Great fluffy towels and so on.

The location was great, though you have to drive to the main attractions in town regardless. We went to the pub and it was quite busy and friendly and the traditional music there was good.

We are part of a group traveling from Portland, Oregon, All Classical FM listeners. We arrived very tired one evening in mid-September, to be warmly welcomed by staff. By far, this is the most welcoming staff of any hotel thus far. The check-in process was extremely easy and the rooms a delight. There is a real old world charm about the property, including the canopy bed! The traditional Irish breakfast was prepared early for our group and exceeded all expectations. One side note. I arrived in the lobby at an ungodly early hour (5am) after our first night, to be greeted by the early desk clerk with a tray of Irish tea! There are no hardfast rules or hours to true and gracious hospitality. These folks do it right. BTW, the wi-fi is throughout the premises and is quite robust.

Room Tip: By all reports, all rooms are very quiet.
