“Perfect gateway to the Ring of Kerry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

This hotel was a great value, especially for its stunning grounds and location, and it's proximity to the Ring of Kerry. In fact, it's on the Ring of Kerry, right near the Killarney National Forest, Ross Castle, and Muckross House (some nice stops when visiting the ring). The rooms could use an update, but were not dirty or disheveled. The view from our room was unbelievable, overlooking the hotel's golf course and the national park. The Irish Breakfast was also very good. There was also a nice looking pool and fitness area, though we didn't have time to use them as we spent most of our time in this area on the ring. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the golf course. The view of the course, and the national park behind it...

Castle Rosse Hotel review
Fossa Kilarney.
Firstly the setting and views are terrific, and it si located a few kms outside killarney centre
We stayed at the end of August for a few nights as a family of two adults and two children .

We stayed in the woodland colleges before so they met our expectations there had been some new finishes installed since we were last year which were welcome, and a new vacuum cleaner .

The cottage are comfortable and warm and we had a restful few days there.

We also partook of food at the hotel having a number of breakfasts and bar food the food was above average for a three star and the staff were very accommodating and helpful from the dining room to the bar to the leisure centre to the reception.

We used the leisure centre a number of times and enjoyed our time there.

There is also a children's playground, a tennis court and basketball area within the grounds and we enjoyed using these during our stay.
There is a very pleasant walk from the grounds of the hotel to the centre of Killarney about 3 km
.
During our stay there was a convention of vintage motorcyclists.
They were friendly and nice people however the motorcycle noise did intrude a little bit in the early mornings and the place was very busy with their convention but nonetheless it didn't detract significantly from our stay.
No internet coverage in the cottages-- maybe not a bad thing to get away from email:) - but some wifi coverage at the hotel

energy use on a fixed charge

If the CastleRosse Hotel continues to offer good value and service ,we will return there again .

Nice, clean, welcoming hotel on a golf course. Lots of big tour groups and also a lively wedding but our room was nice and far from all the commotion. Very quick drive to Kilarney. Clean and simple room but as mentioned by other reviewers, walls are thin! My hearing is not superhuman but I could follow the conversation of our next door neighbors. Food at the restaurant was so-so but then again you get the great panoramic view from the dining room. No wifi in the room.

Just back from a three night stay at the golf lodges at the castlerosse hotel. The location is excellent with a lovely walk in to town from the hotel through a wonderful scenic pathway. The lodges are fantastic with all mods cons, clean and bright and very spacious. The onsite playground and leisure centre is brillant for kids. On the last morning we had breakfast at the hotel which was excellent value at €6 per person. The only negative was phone reception was very poor and no internet in the lodges otherwise we had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate staying again. hopefully for longer next time.

Spent a wonderful couple of nights at this fine hotel. The rooms are fine but not internet in the
rooms although it is available in the lobby and restaurants. The upstairs dining room has a
wonderful view of the 9 hole golf course and lake. Had breakfast in the upstairs dining room
and watched a large herd of deer grazing. Mulligans 19th hole bar was jamming with live
entertainment. Located just outside of beautiful Killarney town which of course is the starting/
stopping point for the "Ring of Kerry". Would highly recommend this place!

The Castlerosse Hotel is in a stunning location with clear views of the Kerry mountains and Killarney's lakes. It is a 5 minute drive to Killarney town or a 20 minute walk along a parkland path. There are no pretensions of grandeur just a warm welcome and nice accommodation. We stayed in one of the holiday apartments or cottages. It was very spacious, fully equipped and the beds were comfortable. A 2 minute walk brings you to Reception and the full Irish breakfast at 6 Euros was a bargain. Mulligan's Bar in the hotel serves a decent pint of Guinness. Reasonably priced, you get what you pay for. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: The cottages sleep six and are great value for a family on a budget.

We booked a family room in this hotel and were given a room on the corridor opposite reception the room was dark, very small for a family of four and smelled damp. When we complained to a very disgruntled receptionist we were after much discussion given another room near the leisure centre. This room was brighter and smelled ok but for a family room was still very small. We spoke to the manager and were eventually given a room 255.
This room was slightly bigger and on the ground floor. However the carpet was frayed so badly it was an inch away from the wall, and the veneer on the bedside lockers was held on with cello tape of all things, We hadn't the energy to complain any further and had been told that there were no other rooms available even though we were willing to pay to upgrade. The room was clean though and the beds were comfortable so we decided to put our first few hours here behind us and enjoy the trip.

We had a lovely evening in Killarney and we enjoyed the situation of the hotel and the views. However the next morning we were all awakened at 6am by the movements of the residents in the room over ours, There is no insulation in the ceiling and we were listening to very loud creaking floors and toilet noises to the extent that the people could have been in our room. We didn't complain that morning, however when the next morning it same scenario was repeated we did complain to the manager who explained that people on a bus tour had been in the room above us and has an early start to their days but had left the hotel and the room was vacant above us on our final night.

We did get some money deducted from our bill on check our but it was too little to0 late for us at that point. We rarely have had to give bad reviews but in this case it is justified, The grounds of the hotel and the views are fabulous the situation of the hotel is perfect with cycle paths and walking routes to Killarney national park easily accessible. The facilities for children are good and the food wasn't bad but the accommodation that we experienced is below par in this day and age and needs renovating. The cottages and lodges however looked very nice and I would have no hesitation in recommending them but the hotel accommodation is poor at best,
