Great Relaxing Break

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 29, 2006
Great Hotel, Amazing views, Good service. Stayed here for a couple of days for a midweek break and had a very relaxing stay the rooms were good. Had a few treatments in the spa which were great again very relaxing
The food was good and the lady in charge of Breakfast (Which was great) made sure we felt very welcome and that we were well looked after she is very good at her job.
Plan to go back again soon

I just returned from a weekend break in aghadoe with my boyfriend. It was a perfect weekend and worth every penny for the 5 star treatment and service. Hotel was not as big as i expected which added to the cosiness and comfort factor. Amazing views, friendly, professional and efficient staf, excellent food - we barely left the hotel all weekend so can comment that breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner were all excellent. Afternoon tea is a lovely way to treat yourselves on a rainy afternoon.
our weekend package included spa treatments which were great and we spent over 3 hours in the spa in total, just chilling out between treatments.
we also made use of the leisure facilities which are available to all guests, lovely swiming pool and jacuzzi.
our room was a lake view room with fantastic views and was large and spacious and cosy. bathroom was huge with a stand alone bath and separate large corner shower.

it is worthy of the 5 star rating for the fantastic service and quality of food. Definately recommended for a nice relaxing break to treat yourself and get pampered and get away from it all in style.

Stayed in the hotel for 1 night, nice views, but failed to delivery a 5 star service, more like the service of a budget hotel, watch out for the additional charges to use the spa facilities

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at this hotel for a weekend break. It was the most relaxing weekend I have had in a very long time. The location of the hotel is out of town in the middle of the country and has spectacular views over the lakes and mountains. The interior of the hotel is beautiful even though it doesn't look much from the outside. We got a free upgrade to a suite even though we only booked a standard room. The ambiance in the bar was lovely with a guy playing lovely music on the grand piano as we had a drink and some dinner. The food in the bar was good but not amazing and quite expensive. The deserts are to die for. The staff were humorous , helpful and friendly and I could not fault them one bit. Excellent. The toiletries in the room were a brand called Aveda which are very expensive and also used in the spa. The mint shampoo was fantastic. The only small complaint that I would have is that our room was too warm all weekend. Turning down the air con to the lowest setting and making sure all radiators were turned off had no effect. I think this was due to underfloor heating which is centrally controlled. The constant heat in the room became annoying after a while. Apart from that minor glitch everything else was brilliant. Oh yes finally the breakfast buffet is fantastic!

My husband and parents-in-law and I set off for 3 days round the Dingle Peninsula. On leaving Killarney we called in at Aghadoe Heights for the first time for a coffee to admire the view. Absolutely the best view of the Killarney Lakes – though the weather wasn’t making it easy. Some Irish 5star hotels manage a smashing blend of 5star and informality of staff - here was no exception. My parents-in-law were bowled over. After 2 days of truly dismal torrential rain, my husband threw in the towel and announced “Right that’s it – we’re going to Aghadoe for the night and we’ll look at this rotten weather from the indoor hot-tub”. Parents-in-law stunned at the treat. Well what a treat! Rooms – just look at the website (---). Lounge upstairs with the huge view – I want those sofas. But that wasn’t the best of it. One of the party (not one of life’s gastronomes) complained quietly that his soup wasn’t hot. This was swiftly rectified. Then his steak wasn’t hot enough either. Cringe with embarrassment (me, I mean).

Anyway, service was staggering. General Manager sweeps in and apologises profusely and explains he has put our names on one of the big aforementioned sofas at the window and a bottle of champagne and strawberries are waiting for us whenever we are ready. I am not sure what temperature the food actually was, but frankly I don’t care. Our food was truly knock-out, but we were knocked out by the service. We will go back as often as possible (sadly not often enough). This hotel should teach others about service.
