My spouse and I stayed at the Cahernane on our first night in Ireland. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Killarney, so it was good to get away from the in town tourist congestion. The tree lined approach to the hotel was pleasant. Upon our arrival we were greeted by two staff members, who could not have been more cordial. The young lady at the front office was one of the most pleasant hotel staff members we've ever dealt with, so that was really nice after a long plane trip and drive to Killarney.

Our room was in the new wing. It was large and roomy, and although modernized, a bit worn. A tv cabinet had a damaged door. The bathroom was new and spacious, with a marble floor and sparking fixtures. Possibly the rooms in the old part of the house have more character.

The main part of the hotel is comfortable and offers the feel of an old estate. The restaurant appeared to be elegant, but we passed since it was a bit pricey. Instead, we drove to Kenmare and ate dinner at Packie's, which I highly recommend if you have the time and inclination. The service was wonderful, the ambience casual, and the food was the perfect meal.

We had breakfast the next morning at the hotel restaurant. It was the best breakfast we had in Ireland. The dining room is comfortable and elegant and the staff very accommodating and professional. They will cook anything you'd like to have; in addition, there is a buffet with anything you'd want--meats, cheeses, salmon, and pastries you might not find for breakfast elsewhere in Ireland.

The Cahernane is very close to Muckross House and the lakes of Killarney, and is a good starting point for a drive along the Ring of Kerry, not to be missed. I'd stay here again, but it's not inexpensive.

You can walk to Muckross House and the park. You are in the town, so you can partake of the town activities with just a short ride. Yet, Cahernane is set in a parklike seeting away from the city noises. Our room was in the new wing. It was a junior suite with a nice balcony and large windows overlooking cows and sheep grazing in the pasture. The staff was pleasant and we had a good meal in the restarant.

We stayed 3 nights at the Cahernane House and had a very good time. The inside and out are very nice and the staff is good. It feels very
"homey" and I would stay there again without thinking about it. Not far from town but far enough that you do not hear any traffic. Not far from the park either. Nice stay!

Our review from 11 June 2004 holds.

This was our 4th stay at the Cahernane and this time we were lucky enough to bring our 2 yr old daughter. She loved it too. She even called it "our new home" :) She loved taking a Horse and cart ride just down the road too!

The staff, as usual, were friendly and gave 5 star service. Two of them may remember helping to get my runnung shoes dried out after I fell into the Torc waterfall. (thanks Marriane, Andrew)

Anyone who has written in and said staff was 'stuffy' is writing of a different Hotel. These folks are in the most friendly in Ireland.

As for 'pricey' this Hotel for its class and prestige is an absolute bargain! We have stayed at other Hotels in Ireland at the same cost that were not even close to Cahernane!
Great job again Cahernane!! See you soon!

(feel better Pat!)

In 2004 our younger son was married to a Killarney woman. We were booked in to the Cahernane for part of our three day party. We have returned each year since. It is a perfect hotel in a perfect location. We have been there in rain and in shine and it never fails to please. The management and staff (many of whom have been there for years - always a good sign) cannot do enough for us. They even sent us a Christmas card last year. Go there, you won't find a better
example of Irish hospitality and good value for money.

My mother, my sister, my daughter and I had a wonderful 10 days in Ireland and we all agree that our most memorable stay was at the Cahernane House - it was just as pictured and beautiful, even in the last days of winter! The rooms were huge, the bathrooms all first class and renovated, and the breakfast delicious! My mother especially enjoyed the atmosphere - as if you were a guest of royalty! We highly recommend a stay here - to top it off, we really enjoyed downtown Killarney - found two local pubs that had wonderful locals playing an singing - and we were the only Yanks in the place! Magical and friendly!

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband.
The different wings of the hotel each have their own decor - old meets new with drawing rooms traditionally decorated and the newer part of the hotel containing the beautiful conservatory area.

Our room was situated in the new extension of the hotel.
The room although traditionally decorated was of excellent standard. It was very big with a living room area splitting the bedroom with an arch and a bathroom. The bathroom had a corner shower, under floor heating and a freestanding bath.

A turndown service was provided at night, with handmade chocolates, weather forecast and towels set out in the shower area,

The staff were courteous and professional at all times, I cannot recommend the restaurant at this hotel enough, the food was outstanding and service excellent. Both breakfast and dinner were probably one of the best I have had in Ireland.
My 0ne gripe was being charged 7.50 for a large bottle of mineral water, a true sign that rip-off Ireland is alive and well.

The hotel cellar "bar" lacks atmosphere at night, and the bars in the town are a lot livelier.

We were possibly the only Irish guests which I found a little strange, most guests were American.

Would definitely return to Cahernane House and would have no hesitation in recommending it.
