“Like a piece of holidays at home.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

After my second visit to casita mexicanna i'm finally getting to write a review. I couldn't recomend this place more highly. The first time i attended with a friend during the fine weather and it felt like we were abroad as we sat outside in the sun sipping sangria and nibbling on nacho's with the most devine homade salsa and guacamole. I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to hot food but the "spice meter" made it easy as pie to be more daring than usual and my chicken enchillada was just perfect. I ended up ordering the exact same thing on my second visit because it was just so damn good. my only regret about the whole experience is that on both occassions by the time it came to desert i was too full to even look at the menu. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or attentive, the atmosphere was wonderful and the prices were just right. I will definitely be returning. Hopefully this time I make room for desert!

“YUM!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

I can not recommend this place enough. It was a truely top notch meal.
The choice on the menu was extensive, and one could order any meal with various levels of spice. The atmosphere and building itself gave off an autentic mexican feel. The chicken for my fajaitas came in a bowl which was kept hot by placing on another bowl with a candle in it.
All dishes came with a side of fries and mexican rice. All the sides for making the fajita were neatly presented in a little basket.
This was a truely outstanding dining experience, and not to be missed in Killarney!

“Emphasis on "Artisan" Mexican”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

We're Americans living in Europe and when there's a chance to grab some Mexican food, we jump at it. In this case, we had a chance for dinner for two in Killarney and we knew it would have to be Casita Mexicana -- simply because it was Mexican. During a few weeks in Ireland, there are only so many variations on Irish stew one can stomach, so we figured maybe a burrito or chimichanga would provide a little piquante to our cuisine.

We got far more than we bargained for.

This is gourmet Mexican fare. If you're looking for Taco Bell or even the fantastic but cheap fare served up at your favorite local Mexican joint, the price tag may seem skewed. But Casita Mexicana isn't in that market. You'll be choosing from a menu of top notch cuisine with a Mexican influence. Expecting a traditional Mexican menu would be like going to the Four Seasons -- although not nearly so formal here -- and being disappointed that the burger isn't done the way you'd expect McDonald's to serve it. So the name says "Mexicana," but you have to pay attention to the "fine print" on their sign: "Artisan Mexican Food and Tapas" and expect more from the artisan.

This wasn't just a pleasant discovery for Ireland. It is -- at least so far -- our favorite Mexican fare outside of North America. (And it's in the running for best overall, too, although how can anyone rate higher than the authentic fare?)

The restaurant is run by a Welsh couple. The husband is brilliant in the kitchen, working magic with a Mexican flair. The wife is charming and keeps the front of the house running. They make a formidable team in delivering a first rate Mexican dining experience. If that's up your alley; if your expectations are high, you won't be disappointed. If your expectations are for your run-of-the-mill Mexican experience, you may feel let down or caught off-guard.
