“Historic Home and Destination of Queen Victoria”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

This was a beautiful example of historic architecture and history, giving real insight on how both the wealthy and the common lived; each having joys and struggles very different from each other. The original owners of the home all but bankrupted themselves in order to accommodate a visit from the queen. Though she was quite pleased, and the family fully expected to receive a title, and along with it regain their wealth, the exhausting experience took the life of the patriarch which then left them desolate. Servants served a demanding life too, expected to serve hand and foot to all the wishes of the masters of the house. Learn more from the excellent tour guides at this partially restored, but mostly original wonder of years gone by for the eyes and heart to behold. The gardens are spectacular too. Plan extra time to visit the gift shop. After visiting other larger and more publicized shopping excursions, I found the gift shop to have unique and interesting items at good prices, perhaps hand crafted on sight.

“Worth a Visit but give cafe a miss”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

A beautiful place, walk around the grounds and lake or visit the house. Visited by Queen Victoria. Lots to see, but give restaurant a miss - especially the sandwiches! Coffee tasteless. If driving from Killarney town, you will see the horse and carts first on right, who will ask if you want a lift, if not drive further down, next turning on right through main gates, straight into free car park.

“You dont have to tour the House”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

You dont have to tour the House to experience this place.
The House and gardens get 5 stars from me, the house tour would only get 3 stars.
Kids wont like the tour, and to be fair its only ok, but the gardens more than make it for it.
On top of that its a great base to rest and eat for walks in the Park.

“Scenic Mansion”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

You can spend hours here, walking in the splendid gardens and doing the guided tour, which I highly recommend. The house has the spirit of those who lived there or visited them, like Queen Victoria. The mansion is so well placed in that scenery. There's a very good infrastructure for eating and buying souveniers. Must see attraction in Ireland.
