“My favorite stop in Ireland! Gorgeous!”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

This was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. It is a beautiful mansion house with tours of the entry hall, library, drawing rooms, some bedrooms, and downstairs kitchen and hall of bells (to summon the servants). You must take a guided tour, but it was interesting and informative. The grounds were beautiful! We even stopped to talk to one of the gardeners. We enjoyed his tales of a recent windstorm told in his charming accent. Nice gift shop and restaurant. Definitely recommend a visit to Muckross House! We only had 2 hours to stay, but if you have more time, you could wander the gardens for a while. Peaceful setting on the lake!

“Location,Space & Free Parking”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 via mobile

I know that free parking may not be particularly important but we kinda expect to get the wallet squeezed by an entrance or parking fee or both.
Not at Muckross House & Gardens. There is a small charge for the personally guided tours of the House but that tour is an option for you.
The Gardens, Arboretum, glorious walks and spectacular scenic views are all free and the Gardeners must be congratulated for keeping the formal gardens in great shape.
The restaurant and gift shop were of good quality and busy , even on a drizzly April Saturday, with guests from many other countries.
Really pleased that Irish National Trust are keeping this precious place going when it could so easily save some money......or make more by charging for parking and entrance !!

“Beautiful mansion”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

Touring the house was like stepping back in time. The bells to summon the servants to various rooms are still in hall in the basement, and the furnishings are well done.
The only option is a guided tour, however. You must walk as a group and listen to the tour guide. This is fine if you all want to go at the same pace, but we had some people who lingered forever in some of the rooms, slowing the entire tour as we waited for them.
It's worth a look, though.
