OMG….can’t say enough, the grounds are breathtaking…so tranquil and perfectly maintained…and that was just the grounds. The House is grand and is perfectly furnished. The guide was very knowledgeable and articulate; I very much enjoyed my tour of the house and grounds. They took great care of my mother as well who has knee problems; there is a lift in the house, so you won’t miss out on the different floors, but your guide has to take you, as you won’t find it if you are on your own. Later, we went to the bar and had an Irish coffee that was so yummy, so were the biscuits (cookies) that were served with our drink. I had to ask the bartender for a few more they were so good. They were Bewley’s, Lotus caramelized cookies, oh sooo good! …the drink too..lol. Then we headed to the gift shop, it is very small but worth a visit. I purchased some hard candies that came in a glass jar, they were strawberry, root beer and lemon flavored, these too were very good, you can also purchase a number of other things but overall, not impressive as a gift shop and the lady there didn’t speak English very well, so it was a little bit of a challenge when we asked her about some of the things we were purchasing but all-in-all a wonderful day at Muckross House and Gardens.

“Fine restoration and beautiful gardens”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

This is a great old country manor in the fine Irish tradition. It has been beautifully restored and is a pleasure to visit. The gardens are lovely, even in September.

Reviewed October 24, 2013

We walked around park on a Sunday afternon - kids ran around the maze - we shopped in the shop - lovely - great bargains - newbridge ware reduced! We then passed hours in the cafe where you could have just coffee and cake or dinner - super!

“Lovely setting but sign posting needs improving”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We enjoyed our time in this lovely setting but even as fairly experienced hillwalkers and map readers we had trouble finding our way right around the lake ..a walk that had been recommended by a few people. there were some colour coded routines but I'm guessing the 'key' was only at the house making access fro other points difficult.

“Fine lakeside setting and Views”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Muckross House is situated on one of the smaller bays of the lake complex, with an unspoilt view across the lakes. The house itself is well-preserved and of some architectural and historic interest, but what we most enjoyed was a ramble through the grounds. There are large areas of mossy-ferny woodland with abundant wildlife and specimens. The Irish seem to be particularly good at preserving the 'natural' atmosphere of this kind of environment.
Don't miss the excellent cafe - a spacious and relaxing area with good coffee and cakes!
