“Wonderful in the Autumn”

A little quieter this time of year. Great colour in the gardens and wonderful light over the lake. Great place for a stroll..

“A good stop along a bike ride”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

Didn't go inside, just visited around the gardens on a bike trip through the park very pretty. Friends who did go in said it was very interesting, so I'll have to go back next time!

“Beautiful manor house and interesting history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

I love old houses and furnishings, so I was in heaven during this tour. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed it. The entire house and its furnishings are well preserved and the guide knows lots of interesting history of the house, its occupants, what daily life must have been like, etc. I especially enjoyed hearing about the visit of Queen Victoria in 1861 and the immense work and expense that was put into preparing for her visit. The preparations took six years! Muckross House now belongs to the country of Ireland and it houses Muckross weavers, book-binders and pottery - be sure to check out the beautiful items available for purchase in the shop.

“Beautiful place! Go to Torc Falls”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

This was such a pleasant surprise! My friends and I hadn’t really thought to come here until we were driving along and saw the place. The fall colors were beautiful, and we were able to take a lovely carriage (jaunting car) ride with Robert and Suzie (the guide and his horse, respectively). We had such fun, and Robert was incredibly knowledgeable of the grounds. He knew the history, the flora and fauna, the lakes, even the number of steps to the top of a staircase outside where we could get a beautiful view of the lakes. We enjoyed Torc Falls as well—it’s beautiful and well worth the short hike!

“Wonderful photo opps”

The house itself was closed when we were there, but we got the most amazing pictures. Beautiful garden and grounds in general. Very lovely.
