This little cottage has plenty of space for a large group. It is a little quirky but not in a bad way, just a little different and speaks to the history of the cottage. We were able to walk into town a couple nights for a meal and pint. Easy connections to the motorway and surrounding Galway area.
We absolutely loved our stay at Banba cottage. It's even more charming than the pictures give it credit for. Spacious, comfortable, warm when it's cold, breezy when it's hot, and the owner Ray couldn't be a more delightful, communicative, considerate host. For a stay about 15 minutes outside the bustle of Galway, can't beat the location-less than a 5-min walk from the train! Can't wait to book my next visit!
This was our first trip to Ireland and first stop in a 12 day holiday . It couldn’t have started in a better way ! From start to finish , Ray made sure our stay was not only very comfortable , but happy and enjoyable as we ventured our way about County Galway . Choosing our dates and booking our cottage was easy & explained so well via the internet and following emails . Ray was there to greet us & show us about our cottage . It was awesome ! All the rooms were so clean and spacious ious and sleeping was very comfortable . Every detail we could have needed was attended to ! Ray even made a map for us with lovely towns to enjoy during one of our day’s adventures ! We followed his advice and had a GREAT day ! The train was literally a 2- minute walk away but we chose to drive a short ride into Galway city . One evening we took the shirt walk into the town of Athenry ( also SO nice !) and met the nicest people as we enjoyed a delicious bite to eat .
Our stay at Banba House was perfect ! I would highly recommend it !
Our family had a great stay at Banba Cottage - I highly recommend it! The Cottage is on the grounds of Banba House, but it's completely separate with its own entrance, driveway, and private garden. Our group of 9, family and friends ranging from 6 to 60 years old, stayed at The Cottage for five days in February. We were so happy with how cheerful, clean, and comfortable this beautiful home was. The weather was unusually cold during our trip, and we were so thrilled each day to come home to a warm house. The central heating worked wonderfully. In addition, the owner Ray thoughtfully left Irish turf for us to light the fireplaces, which added to the cozy feeling of being "home" and happy.
The bedrooms were spacious with comfortable beds. The bathrooms were modern with lots of towels provided, and although we were a big group, we always had plenty of hot water. There is a large TV with lots of cable channels. High-speed internet was provided, and we had no problems with it even though there was "teenage over usage"! We always had breakfasts at the cottage, and the kitchen has everything you need to make meals for a family. A small food shop is just a block away from Banba and also a large supermarket a couple minutes drive away.
Our group did not rent a car(s), and truthfully, it was quite a relief to not have the bother. The train station is just a two-minute walk from Banba, and trains brought us to Galway in less than 15 minutes. There is also an express bus service that's just as close and convenient, and some of us took the bus to get back to Banba as it runs well past midnight.
Ray arranged for airport pick up for our group and we were taken directly to the house, which was so nice after a long plane ride. Ray also runs a bus/tour business, and he organized our tours to Cliffs of Moher and Connemara. It was so convenient to deal with just one trusted person to help us with our plans. On the day of our tours we just needed to walk out the door, and our private tour bus with guide was waiting for us! No tickets, no standing in line, no crowds. It was amazing, and I highly recommend everyone to let Ray organize buses and tours for you.
We had a fantastic stay at Banba Cottage. It was perfect for our large group, and Ray made the stay even better with all his assistance. Thanks so much for everything - we can't wait to come back!
This cottage is clean, comfortable with amazing views of Lough Mask (a beautiful large lake) and gentle rolling hills dotted with sheep and cattle. It is in the town of Clonbur, which is lovely with two very good restaurants. There's also a grocery store with good pricing. We certainly enjoyed the cottage, but we are from Naples, Florida and Hurricane Irma had us preoccupied, so much so that we found out we needed to get back to take care of properties in Everglades City. So instead of the month, we stayed only a week. But God showed us promise. Each day when we got up, looking outside, we saw the most beautiful rainbows over the hills!
My only request would be Wi-Fi (the one in the cottage didn't work) and I'm sorry to say, a TV would be helpful. The reason? We were unable to stay fully connected to what was happening in not only the world, but our little corner in Florida.
The bottom line is that we had a good time, even with our state-side concerns. The Irish people are truly wonderful! Loved all the sheep.
Never begin a speech or meeting with a apology.
I must apologize for my lengthy delay in reviewing Station House, Athenry. Station House is a lovely property that was absolutely perfect for us during our stay. We felt at home the minute we walked up the path and met the property owners. Chris was welcoming, delightful and most helpful.
We were presented with a home made guide book with all sorts of very useful information, such as the trains schedule, activity ideas, cab number, Athenry City information and take away menus. All details and information presented were well thought out.
Station House itself is quite spacious. Everything is updated. The Wi-Fi worked throughout the house. Cable television made the teenager in our group quite happy. There is a kitchen for cooking and a grill outside. The yard is nice and there is room for car parking if you have a vehicle. Bedrooms were large and comfortable. Despite being across the street from the train, we only heard the train whistle once.
Station House is close to everything in Athenry Center, including restaurants, many of which are open late, pubs, cafes, the grocery. This is really a great property at a tremendous value in an excellent location. We highly recommend it.
We received our security deposit refund on our last day.

Stayed with a large group of friends over New Years. We were originally looking for somewhere in Galway but left it too late to book and everything was gone. However the train ride into the city from Athenry was nice and short and the house is literally a few steps from the station. Ray gave us a number for a really helpful taxi who got us home even in the chaos of New Years. Everything with the house was perfect, and the owners very easy to deal with and hassle free. My only reason for 4 out of 5 is that the overall price including deposit was a little heavy in my opinion, it amounted to almost €2k for just two nights stay, but to be fair almost everywhere hikes the prices for new years. Over all, very happy.
