Periwinkle Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #33 of 189 Galway B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 23, 2009

Periwinkle is a very nice b&b in a quiet residential neighborhood far from traffic, with ample on-street parking. Our room was small, but not uncomfortably so. Joan, the inkeeper, serves a good, hearty Irish breakfast.

I walked to Eyre Square on the far side of the downtown area in 20 minutes, so it's little more than a mile away. The route is all residential until you get to within a block or two of downtown.

Galway Bay is less than a quarter mile away. Periwinkle is just across the wesern border of Claddagh, the area made famous by the Claddagh ring and Bing Crosby ("...watch the moon rise over Claddagh, and see the sun go down on Galway Bay.") Joan believes the lyricist must have had her neighborhood in mind. The b&b is on the eastern edge of Salthill with its promenade.

Joan was very friendly, and even gave us a ride to the edge of downtown.

We'd stay there again.

Me and my friend stayed at the Periwinkle in June. Joan gave us a friendly welcome. We had a nice small room and a choice of marvelous breakfast. It was always served with lovely decorations. Joan was very helpful in every respect. She is a great landlady. There is no doubt where to stay when we will be back to Galway.

I stayed in the Periwinkle for 3 nights in May 2009. Joan was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and cheerful with Joan's beautiful own paintings on the walls. We had wireless internet and Guests have their own internet phone on request so I was able to phone my family in Poland every day. Joan arranged our tours and we got them for the same price as we would had we booked them on the internet ourselves and were picked up at the house for no extra charge. I would encourage anyone to experience the hospitality of this fine establishment. Anna

What a wonderful place to stay in Galway! The Periwinkle was a lovely spot, but the best part of it was Joan. She made sure that we were well taken care of, even recruiting neighbors and her son to lend her a hand in making sure of it! Her conversation was wonderful and I think my favorite part was having tea with her over a wonderful breakfast and learning about her and her life growing up in Ireland. She's a warm, lovely person who happens to be a very talented artist as well. Ask her to see the statues made of sugar!

The walk into Galway was about 15 - 20 minutes and was beautiful. Only had to take the taxi home one night -- too much walking and sightseeing that day.

Joan was the perfect B&B Landlady. The breakfasts were excellent, lots of choice, lovely presentation and delicious. The room was comfortable and the location perfect for walking into Salthill or Galway. Joan was a mine of information on the locality and gave us good
advice on what to visit and which was the best route to take. We confirmed our booking a couple of days beforehand by e-mail and therefore had no problems with our 3 night booking. Thank you Joan.

In 2005 (one day) and 2007 (5 days) I stayed at Periwinkle. I was very pleased with the helpfullness and hospitality of the landlady: she droppped me off with the car at a bicyle rent (3 miles from the B&B) and dropped me off at the busstop as I left for visiting the Aran Isles.
The food was excellent and the room was clean. Periwinkle is situated close the shore of Galway Bay and is just 10 minutes walk fram City Center. There lovely pubs with lots of trad. music are found

Would I visit Galway City again (this wiil certainly happen) this will be the place to stay for me!
