“Old fashioned glamour!”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

Through work we brought a group of 25 guests to stay at the Meyrick hotel, Galway. The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect, it is located right on Eyre Square and is very close to the railway station and easy to get to by car. Parking is provided for an additional €5 a night. You get a feeling of lovely old fashioned glamour when you enter the hotel and checking in staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was nice, clean and comfortable but a little small. I was on the 5th floor so perhaps try to avoid that floor when checking in. The spa looked lovely and has an outdoor hot tub looking out over the city and bay, unfortunately it doesn't open until 9am on a Saturday morning so I did not get to use the facilities as we were checking out early that morning. Breakfast consisted of the usual buffet options and was fine. Staff seated us as soon as we arrived and there are also other menu options provided.
I really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again - if even just to get to use that outdoor hot tub!

Room Tip: Avoid the 5th floor - rooms very small

We stayed at the Meyrick on 17th and 18th July as our son and now daughter in law were having their wedding reception there. What an amazing hotel! What amazing service! Superb floor control during the meal, great food and nothing was too much trouble for the staff! If you're considering this hotel for a wedding reception, be assured, it will be tremendous!

Room Tip: Front facing rooms have a great view of Eyres Square which are well worth a little extra noise.

Enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Meyrick. Great location in the heart of the city close to everything. The room was nicely appointed with a king size bed (two singles put together) and decent though small bathroom. Great wifi connection in our room, friendly staff, and nice buffet breakfast each morning. Only drawback was the heat. We were given a fan which helped but still it was difficult to sleep. I would also suggest that the management add a soft pillow top to the mattresses as the bed was rather hard. I would stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is old, tired, loud, scuffed up and overpriced. We stayed 2 nights at Meyrick after staying at Park House up the street for two nights. Park House was the best of the two by a significant margin. It is also considerably cheaper. At Meyrick, we were assigned a room on the 4th floor. Took the main elevator to the 4th floor, but our room wasn't there. It was on a sub floor with windows looking out on the parking access area. The hotel dates from the 1800's and has very heavy doors both to the rooms and hallway. They shut hard and loud. Sound travels. All night long. This is not a 4 or 5 star experience. Maybe a 2.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Dear WFN2014,

Although we are regretful for you taking time to post this comment, we are really disappointed that your stay was not what we expect of ourselves.

We are not sure if you have addressed the noise issue with us directly but if you would we certainly would try our best to allocate you a quieter room.
Being a city centre Hotel we can't have a Park View all around, so unfortunately some rooms have a view of a City Jungle. We are sorry to hear it was not to your liking.

Thank you once again and we hope to see you in the nearest future.

Kind Regards

The hotel is still very nice but we are very disappointed that the bar is now closed during the week it was always our 1st choice when we are in Galway to take mum and dad for lunch. But they have opened the Gaslight restaurant and sending everyone in there but it really isn't the same neither is the menu we had one drink and left. Please reopen the bar it is a very important part of any hotel. As always the staff were fantastic.

We stayed at Hotel Meyrick May bank holiday weekend as we had a family wedding. We were worried about parking when we first arrived but there is plenty spaces around the corner in the bus/train station car park and reasonably priced for the day considering you are in the heart of Galway City. The hotel is beautiful and full of character. The staff are really nice and take the time to check you in. We were very lucky as we were upgraded as we were staying a couple of nights and the room or should I say rooms were fabulous. If you like a building with history then this is the place to stay. The high celling, big door entrances and classical decor would win you over. I really loved this stay and would love to return to take advantage of the spa and roof top pool.

The food was lovely and the staff at the breakfast were very attentive and very good in making sure you had enough toast or tea/coffee etc... The bar food is on the expensive side but as mentioned before you are in Galway city.

There are some disadvantages the room was very warm when we stayed and there was no air con so we did have to open windows and being on Eyre's square it was very noisy late at night but hey you are in the middle of the city, It didn't bother me but if you are a light sleeper you might want to pack earplugs. Also the reception desk is located at the right hand side of the entrance hidden away which didn't really make much sense but that is just what I thought.

Considering what we paid I thought the stay was 5 star...

This is a must do hotel. I love Galway. Favourite place in all of Ireland. This hotel is as central as you can get (though tough to find when using GPS - you have been warned). Nice, historic, beautiful lobby, impeccable service by staff, historic, great breakfast, large rooms, comfortable beds, lots of amenities, and cheap overall when compared to anything in Dublin, etc, etc. This hotel is large. But, it is also trendy, quant and a boutique hotel all at the same time. It is right on the main square. The pedestrian mall is a 3 minute walk diagonal to the entrance and across the square. The staff were super accommodating of a some injuries I had injured just prior to the trip. Gave great recommendations for local bars and food.
Careful of the odd metal "anti-slip" protrusions the City put in right out front by the light - they are at most intersections and are deadly; saw many people fall.

Room Tip: We peeked in a number of rooms while the maid was making them up. They all looked good. I liked lo...
