“Elegant Old Property, Great Location”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

This stately old hotel in the center of Galway City has been well restored and updated with modern conveniences, fixtures, etc. The rooms are small but quite nice. Location is wonderful in the heart of Galway, just across from a city park where activities were staged during the Galway Arts Festival when we were there. The location is wonderful with many shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. Food in the restaurant is very good. All in all a pleasant experience except for a window that could not be raised on the first night, so a bit warm.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the park.

Stayed in the Meyrick Hotel last week as we were attending Galway Races. It was a choice between the G Hotel and The Meyrick Hotel (have stayed in The G Hotel and it was first class all the way)but decided on The Meyrick because of it's location.. the centre of the town. On entering the hotel I thought straight away I had made a mistake, the revolving door was dirty and the glass horribly marked from handling, this is the first port of call into the hotel the GM should know this and have it covered with a cleaner constantly attending to this area.
The reception was dark dreary and very unkempt, whilst waiting to check in I was dripped upon by a leak coming from a ceiling vent !! The receptionist was pleasant and efficient and apologised for the leak.
The dining/breakfast room was tired dark unclean and not a nice area to relax in. I was seated beside a huge black mirror so tarnished how anyone could leave it there was beyond me. It served no purpose at all. A door into the street again was very very dirty.
Our room was on the 5th floor and was beautiful, large and perfectly decorated. The bathroom large and spotless.
The food, again was very very good, the chef obviously knows what good food is about.
I was overcharged on check out by €27.00 the receptionist couldn't tell me what it was for and neither could I as we were on a package ! but she deftly removed it from the bill.
I love hotels and have stayed in them since I was a little girl(not yesterday !) and feel very strongly that we here in Ireland rid ourselves of that awful but aptly (in lots of cases) saying "RIP OF IRELAND" It is unacceptable to be charged extortionate prices for goods not delivered in this instance The Meyrick did not deliver and in my opinion has no right to charge 4 star prices for 2 star standards.
I write a very fair review and will always give praise when due, it's far nicer to write pleasant aspects of a visit to an hotel than negative but I am on the side of the consumer ensuring that they get value and service for their very hard earned money.
If you want to charge 4 star prices Meyrick Hotel Galway you must guarantee and give 4 star service and standards.
On my visit you did not.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your time in writing your review, without Customer Feedback we are at a loss as to know where we are letting our guests down.

I appreciate your comments in regards to the cleanliness as you entered the hotel, although there is always a lot of persons coming through the doors during Race Week, it is not acceptable that the doors were not kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

You comments have been duly noted, we at the Hotel Meyrick are continuously reinvesting in the product and it is always a important for us to hear where guests feel we need to improve on our Décor and Atmosphere.

We hope that should you be returning to Galway that you will come in and see some changes in regards to our hotel.

Kind Regards
Hotel Meyrick

Had a great stay here at the beginning of June. Hotel in a great location in the city centre and a great valet service for car ie you arrive and it is taken away and parked for you! We got a great 2 night deal and for the price, it was great. Great atmosphere with a coach load of Italian tourists one one evening and a fashion show the next. Breakfast was very good but dinner was just okay. It was included in the great deal we got but service could have been at bit sharper. Loved the bar and the foyer. Room was spacious and clean as was the bathroom. Room to back of hotel - hence great deal, so no view to describe. We also had a massage each in the Spa. Really enjoyed this.
Overall, I would recommend!

Clean room, polite staff. Didn't have time to use the Canadian outdoor hot tub but a collegue did and enjoyed it. In a good location, especially close to train station (about 20 seconds)

food was sub standard. Front desk staff let hotel down with exception to aoife who was very professional. The cleaning staff were very nice and looked very professional, more than I can say about their front desk colleagues. we got food poisoning on 2 nd nite which ruined our yearly break. Manager gave us some rubbish excuse that they had tested food... Please!. We paid over 1200 euro for our break. If staff had handled our food poisoning with some consideration it would have eased our annoyance.

Dear Guest

I would like it duly noted that as a Hotel we conducted all the necessary requirements to ensure that the “Food Poisoning”, was not caused by the meal consumed in our restaurant. We do have guidelines in place for such incidents I would like to take this opportunity to ensure you that we did cover all angles necessary to ensure that our food did not assist your illness. Our other diners that evening did not report any such cases of illness due to their meal, and we were very busy that evening in our restaurant. I would like to take this opportunity though to apologise if you felt, it was not dealt with correctly by our management team.

Less than satisified. After we checked in, we went up to our room on the 4th floor. As soon as we got off the elevator, all we could smell was cigarette smoke. The entire floor smelled like a dive bar. The cigarette smell wasn't as bad inside our room, but we had different issues in there. Everything looked very dingy, and the carpet was very lumpy and stained. Worst of all, the bathroom smelled HORRIBLE, almost a sulphur kind of smell. Honestly, it smelled like someone had used the toilet right before we got there. The only reason I know that's not what happened is that the smell wouldn't dissipate. We left for a few hours and came back and the sulphur smell was still there, just as strong as before. We actually asked to change rooms, and the only room available was a really tiny, cramped space overlooking a dumpster, but we took it. I don't think we'd ever return.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding and loved it. Room (executive) was huge, more like a suite and with a lovely view over Eyre's square. Well located and would recommend it again. The food was very good. Can be expensive but we got great package deal.
