“Marvelous Mary at Marless House”
Reviewed July 13, 2009

The pictures of the Marless House dining room and garden were my impetus for booking and I was not disappointed. What pictures don't tell is how thoughtful, caring and informative the hostess, Mary Geraghty is. Marless was our first stop after arriving from Shannon with a rental car whose steering was going bad. After getting us tucked away in our simple but very clean and comfortable rooms, she undertook the task of getting a new car for us. That extra care and courtesy was unnecessary but so very appreciated.

Breakfast was the liveliest of all our stays. Breakfast itself was complete and delicious, the standard by which we measured all others. Mary subtly seemed to make sure everyone felt free to chat and share about their journeys so it was fun and informative. She too, was a fountain of info, where to eat, and what to see. It was a great place to begin our two weeks in Ireland.

We absolutely loved Marless and its hosts. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Wi-fi worked reliably! We left wishing we could have stayed longer, and with the intention of staying again if we return to Galway. Absolutely highly recommend it.

We started our trip to Ireland at Marless House. Mary and Tom were extremely friendly and helpful. We had come to Galway to do some geneological research and Mary was very informative about resources in the area. The house was spotless, the room was great and Mary was there it seems 24/7 to offer tea or conversation. I can't say enough about how much both Mary and Tom made you feel that it was "your" house.

Marless house also gets my award for best breakfast in Ireland. During our trip we stayed at 5 different B&B's and Marless house breakfast was the best by far. Try the French Toast, it was great.

The location is great, about 1 block up from the water. Within walking distance of all the beach resort attractions in the area. If you don't mind a little hustle and bustle on the weekend (when we stayed) you'll love this place.

To summarize, Marless House set the standard for all the other B&B's we stayed at when we visited Ireland. If we make another trip we'll definitely be re-booking.

I picked Marless House because of the high rating on trip advisor and there are so many good reviews here that anything that I say would be redundant....but I will anyway:) Mary is very friendly and welcoming. She has some blank maps and a trusty marking pen and will send you on your way in the right direction for your adventures. This was the perfect place for what we wanted to see....a day trip to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher, and another day to the Aran Islands. We stayed with Mary for three nights in an 8 day trip.....it was our favorite place. She recommended the show "Trad on the Prom" which has just started playing at The SaltHill Hotel which is just a couple of blocks away. A small intimate "mini" Riverdance.....a family of performers....two sisters, a brother and a husband that play instruments and then six dancers....most veterans/stars of Riverdance in the past. We went early and got a front row seat....it was wonderful. Mary did not recommend eating at the hotel as she thought it was too expensive, but it was so cold to walk further into town that we decided to eat there...and I would really recommend that hotel restaurant. It was one of our best meals of our trip. We also did a hike with Shane Connolly in the Burren and if you have the energy...I would recommend Shane also.....we climbed up 600 feet on Blackhead Mountain...I had no idea of what I had signed up for (thought it was a little "walk" around the Burren)...but it turned out also to be one of the highlights of our trip. You can find his contact info in the Rick Steves book...or google his name with Burren Walks.

Stayed 2 nights through recommendation from Authentic Ireland tour operator. This is a very nice, very clean B&B in an excellent location. The owners, Mary and Tom, could not have been better hosts...so friendly and helpful with information about the area. Would definitely stay at the Marless House again.

If you are looking for warmth, charm, great location and personal attention stay at the Marless House. Mary and Tom Geraghty, are outstanding in making you feel welcome in their home. The rooms were charming, bright, and spotless. Breakfast was made to order and Mary is very flexible about time, just give her a rough idea. No time tables here. You can walk into town, or take the bus into Galway, the location can't be beat. Mary greets you with tea and biscuits and will gladly fix you a nice pot in the afternoon if you just want to read in the lovely sunny livingroom. Next time, I'll stay longer two nights was not enough. Wonderful place.

Marless House is conveniently located off the main road into Salthill. It's within easy walking distance to the water and town. Traditionally decorated with a family feel, the rooms are large and comfortable with ample storage. The guest lounge includes a TV, books and magazines, as well as afternoon tea, coffee and biscuits. The hostess, Mary, is wonderful with great conversation, tips on local attractions, maps and directions. Breakfast was fantastic! With a wide-range of options, we opted for the french toast based on the recommendation of another guest - WOW! Best we've had in a VERY long time!. Quiet and friendly with central access to Galway, the Aran Islands, and Connemara National Park, Marless House is a great pick.
