“Great Location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2008

Stayed for two days with my wife and two young children while traveling throughout Ireland. Family room was large with alot of space. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was fine although the plumbing was a bit noisy. The hotel is on the older side so the interior needs a little TLC. The breakfast was pretty bland and the eating area is very crammed. They had only one waitress to service the entire room and there was a wait to take ones food order. The bar downstairs is a very nice place to sit down and have a pint or two.
The biggest plus for this hotel is the location. It is a very short walk outside of the city center and everything you may want to see is within walking distance. Overall The Western is a fine place to stay if you plan on being out and about.

Just spent a few nights at The Western Hotel, and would like to
to tell everyone about the great Irish Music sessions there. On
the Thursday night we stayed there, a great irish music session
started up about 9.30pm. At the beginning there were just a few
musicians, but then every 10 minutes someone new seemed to
arrive to make a mega-jam the likes of which is rarely seen. I've
been to Galway many times, but this is the best music I've heard.
I'd recommend staying at The Western if you want a slice of real
Irish culture.

Other than providing a decent breakfast, this hotel is the pits... I stayed in room 304... there is no airconditioning so the room was rather stuffy. There was no internet connection in the particular room i was staying in (I was told that the walls were too thick for them to put a cable through and that they were looking into it), and the only place where i could get onto the Internet was in the lobby on the first floor. And even then, they tend to turn off the wireless network every now and then which makes it very frustrating.

Decorwise... if you like old, musty places then this hotel is for you. Creaky wooden stairs, uneven flooring, stains on bedsheets, poor lighting, uncomfortable chairs, noisy corridors... in short, this place stinks. Unless you have a masochistic streak, or if you have a penchant for proving how tough you are... AVOID THIS HOTEL LIKE PLAGUE!!!

An older hotel but still in her prime. I contacted the hotel directly, asking for a very nice room because my wife and I would be celebrating our 28th Wedding Anniversary when we were staying here. The room that was selected was 401, and was a favorite of the person I was corresponding with. From this wonderful corner room we could see Galway bay, the Burren, and Eyre Square, which is only 1 block away. We parked in the garage, and spent the afternoon walking around the pedestrian area of Galway.

I had booked this hotel for 3 nights, starting St Patrick's Day. I was there early, about 10.30 am or something, but there was a ready room ,so I checked in immediately. Staff is quite polite,no complains about that. Reception area is a bit small and strangely setted, you pass the main entrance and reception desk is at the back of a corridor, corridors up to the flours are a bit wierd too, with small steps and doors here and there, but except that, hotel is quite well-kept. Decoration in the rooms are is a bit strange, most of the furniture is old-looking in a bad way (with a couple of exceptions, they are not really old pieces of furniture, they just look old). Bathrooms seem to be renovated recently, are larger and looked fine. There is TV and a tray for tea/coffee in the room, and complementary sampoo etc. My room (406) had a window looking on a busy road,so although it was the 4rth floor,it was quite noisy. Breakfast was quite nice, there was the usual selection of yogurts, cereals etc,and then you could order cooked breakfast(included in the price of course). La Vache Qui Rit cheese on the breakfast buffet was a nice touch,I love this cheese! I didn't go to bar.rextaurant,so no comments about that. It would be nice to have a couple of computers for guests somewhere. There is Wi-Fi access in the bar if you have your note book with you, but if not,the only option is one of the near-by net cafes. The greatest thing of this hotel is its location, only two minutes of Eyre square, and 5 minutes from bus/train station.. The only thing I didn't like is that first morning housekeeping didn't enter my room, I came back to have some rest, and they knocked the door to come in about 3.30 pm! I guess that's because it was after Paddy's night,so they should have lots of check-outs to do, but I think management should have hire some extra staff for the day!Anyway, that wasn't so terrible,so yes, I would stay here again, no problem!

I frequently stay in Galway for business and the best I have found in city centre is the Western. For long stays I hang my coat at the western with ease.

13 of us stayed in this hotel for 1 night at the weekend. Check in was fast but reception was small. It was straight down to the bar to watch footie and the service was great. We had food in the bar as well and it was well above average.

The room was lovely, Nice bed ann bathroom but reception in the tv wasn't great. We were in 208 and a had lovley balcony as well.

Location for the hotel perfect. Right off Ayre square.

We all really enjoyed the hotel and no one had a bad word to say. I didn't have breakfast but others did and gave it the thumbs up.

I would have given it 5 out of 5 but when we arrived back after a night out the night security was rude and the night porter didn't want to listen to a complaint
