“Kilcullen House review”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

Kilcullen House is a short walk across the bridge from Galway City. We walked each night to excellent restaurants recommended by our fine hosts, Russ and Emer. Our room was quiet, on the back of the house. Very comfortable and a good value. We met people at the delicious breakfast who became good friends on the rest of our trip. My only complant was a hair dryer that burned my neck. I guess I should have gotten a clue from the way the plastic had melted!

The place is closely located to the central area of Galway. We were here for 3 nights and we enjoyed every second of it. The rooms are small indeed, but then again they are very fairly priced and mostly typical for bigger cities B&B. The breakfast was delicious.

In a great location, Kilcullen House is conveniently situated only a few minutes walk to either city centre or Salthill. Russell is the most welcoming, professional and caring innkeeper I ever met. He is always available and made sure I had everything I needed. We had great conversations each morning. He's a great cook too with wonderful choices for breakfast. Freshly baked bread is served daily with organic eggs in a delicious omelette plus other equally tasty choices. My room, as all of the B & B, was spotless. It was a good size with a great wardrobe to keep my luggage and clothes organized since I was there five nights. The art on the walls is a great addition and initially why I chose this place to stay. Kilcullen House has incredible energy and just about perfect in every way. And don't forget the delicious home baked cookies in the front room to enjoy while relaxing reading one of the interesting magazines on the table. I look forward to staying there again on my next visit to Galway.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back may be quieter.

Except for the tiny bathroom, the Kilcullen House had everything we like in a B&B. Its excellent location made it an easy walk into the center of Galway and yet quiet. The price was lower than our other stays and perhaps it was slightly less fancy, but no less comfortable and accommodating. An excellent value. Thanks to Russ and Emer for their hospitality.

We stayed one night at Kilcullen House during our 10 days in Ireland. The B&B is in the Galway city very near to one of the main restaurant/bar/shopping areas.

Pros:
Owners: The owner was nice enough, but we interacted with a staff person in the early evening when we arrived. The owner seemed a bit over-worked, but that was fine. The staff person was extremely nice to us.
Breakfast: Breakfast was good and made from scratch, but they prefer you choose what you are eating the night before.
Location: As stated, it was about a ten minute stroll to an area with many restaurants, pubs and shopping.
Price: The price was reasonable and comparable to similar B&Bs during our stay.

Cons:
Cleanliness: Our room and the common areas were mostly clean. However, our bed didn't have a top sheet which seemed odd as they probably don't wash the comforter after each visit.
Parking: There is not enough parking at the B&B if they are full. We ended up having to use street parking which we were told not to pay for and it worked out, but it was somewhat stressful.
Privacy & Noise: We had a room at the top of the stairs on the right which faced the back. We didn't really have a problem with noise, but all the doors were squeaky and needed to be addressed.
Room size: Our room was very small compared to other B&Bs, but it was in the middle of Galway, so it's probably to be expected. The bathroom was very small as well, but the shower had really nice water pressure.

KilcullenHouse, Owner at The Stop B&B, responded to this review, October 30, 2012
Dear reviewer,

It's always good to get feedback. We're so pleased that you found our staff extremely nice and that you enjoyed our breakfast as we are passionate about food at Kilcullen House. We use locally sourced quality ingredients and each dish is prepared fresh each morning.

We feel it's of upmost importace, though, to respond in particular to your assumption that our duvet covers are not laundered between visits. We are fastidious with regard to cleanliness (a fact which is backed up by our many glowing reviews on the subject). All our bedlinen and towels are laundered, dried and folded by us and our excellent staff between bookings, a system that I feel is pretty much standard these days.

Emer and I are so proud of Kilcullen House, we have built our reputation on a great deal of hard work, attention to detail, and above all a love of what we do.

Kilcullen house is the perfect place if you want to stay in Galway. It's ten minute wall from the centre, the rooms are very clean and beatiful and the staff is amazing: I got a bad cold whole I was there and everybody took care of me as I was part of the family, I will never forget Russell and Emer, so lovely!

Russell was incredibly warm and welcoming, making our two night stay relaxing and enjoyable. He was a wealth of knowledge, and took the initiative to tell us what to see on our drive out of Galway, ensuring that we were armed with great info. And though he is too modest to admit it, he makes the perfect poached egg ;)
