“Ideal base for exploring Galway City”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We stayed here on our recent visit to Ireland & were very happy with our choice. Griffin Lodge is located on a side street, hence was quiet at night. It is just one short block off the main road heading west from the city, so a perfect base for exploring the countryside by car. But at the same time it is also an easy walk to the west end and the city center. In short, the ideal location.

Our room was spotless and quite comfortable, if a bit small by American hotel standards. Breakfasts were excellent (including French press coffee!) and Anne, the manager, was always cheerful and helpful.

If you're looking for a B&B in Galway, this is the place to stay. It's within walking distance of the center of town, yet in a residential area so it's not noisy. But the best thing about this place is, Ann, the manager who will make you feel so at home and help you with whatever you need, whether it be advice and assistance with how to get wherever you want to go, booking a tour, calling a cab, or feeding you a good, solid breakfast. The best of warm Irish hospitality!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on our very recent trip to Ireland. We couldn't have enjoyed it more. Anne, the manager, is fabulous and fun, and her attention to detail is spectacular. The breakfasts were wonderful (never had a bad one in the Country actually) and the room was clean and comfortable. It was a bit small but as we were in a city I really wouldn't expect much more. My husband is a big guy and we had 2 big suitcases and we were fine. Everything was bright and cheery. The building is beautiful on the inside.

The placement of the B&B was perfect, off the main road and quiet. And it was also on the side of the bridge that suited us as the best traditional music venues (what we were looking for) were also on that side.

Have to say my own personal favorite were the facecloths! Facecloths seem to be rare in Ireland!

Griffin Lodge is ideally located to get into the city centre. Ann is an informative hostess. The rooms are small but clean and the breakfast is good.

Stayed two nights at Griffin lodge and were very happy to have chosen the place. Anne, the owner, is so wonderful. We were driving, and couldn't find the place (it's a little hard to find at first, but easy once you do) and she walked around until she found our car and could lead us to her B&B. And she helped us with everything else we needed, including some places to stop on our drive back to Dublin. She even let us leave our car there when we did an overnight to the Aran Islands. The B&B is in a great area, totally quiet street, but just minutes away from everything in Galway. Would definitely stay again if I go back.

We were a group of 6, who just showed up the afternoon of March 26th looking for 3 rooms for 2 nights. We met Anne, who was wonderfully accomodating, and we hit it off with her right away. The B&B is in a great location, just minutes from all the action of Galway, but on a side street so no traffic noise. There is some parking right out front, which we took advantage of. The B&B itself is just what you expect from a typical B&B in Ireland, and was quite a good value. What really made our stay, however, was Anne herself. She is wonderfully engaging and full of fun. We had many laughs with her. Anne also recommended & booked a bus trip to Connemara for the Ladies in our group (while the guys were golfing). Would recommend that anyone staying in Galway who wishes to be near downtown, consider the Griffin Lodge.

We loved our weekend at Griffin Lodge. It is superbly located just a short walk from town. Anne, the hostess, was lovely to us and made us feel at home. Breakfast was fabulous - lots of it, and good range, including full cooked Irish breakfast, served cafe style. Good coffee too. All in all, a very professional operation - and good value too. We paid 30 Euro each (i.e. total 60 Euro for the room) for a double bedroom with ensuite.
