“Nice hotel, but not a great location.”
Reviewed November 1, 2011

This hotel was very contemporary, Theroom was nice and comfortable and the staff was great, but we did not like the location at all. It was in the middle of a shopping center. You need to take a cab to get to the square with shopping, pubs and restaurants. If you are not interested in the pub scene or unique shops, the the G Hotel is fine. Otherwise I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Stayed in the G for 3 nights in October and found it to be a very nice hotel but it could be an excellent hotel.
Firstly the staff at the G were in general very genuinely welcoming and attentive and are a credit to the place.
The decor of the public areas is certainly unique and whilst not to my personal taste it is at least something different and unlike anything I've seen before. The only negative with this is that on closer inspection some of the decor and furniture has been left to deteriorate a bit (torn and stained fabrics in places) and this does take the shine off the finish.
The the bedrooms and bathrooms are much more subtly decorated and were kept clean during out stay.
I was slightly dissapointed that the mini bar was not stocked (though a phone call to reception could have addressed this) and the in room entertainment system maybe isn't quite up to the standard of a five star hotel.
We visited the spa during our visit to use the thermal suite (sauna, steam room thermal baths etc) and were abit suprised that this incurred a 20euro charge per person for one hour as other hotels of this standard we have stayed in more often than not include the use of such facilities in the room rate. The spa is very good though.
The gym is in good working order, had sufficient numbers of machines and was never busy.
The food in general was very good though we only had breakfast and lunch at the hotel as we chose to go into the town for dinner. Our only issue here was the inability to supply warm toast at breakfast, despite numerous attempts we got cold rack after cold rack.
All in all we enjoyed our stay however and would recommend the G at the right price.

I like visiting the G - Its just fun and It feels like a Dreamy escape from the world.
I went with friends for tea n we were very comfortable n had a very pleasant afternoon.
its worth a visit - we all popped back to the galleon in salthill (restaurant) for a lovely dinner.
so we had a really perfect day. Galway always makes me smile.
Look the G up on the internet n U will just know if U have to visit it.

We stayed at the G for 2 nights with our children and had a great time. The crazy decor is fun, the service is warm and friendly and the Matz restaurant is very good for both dinner and breakfast. The cocktails hit the spot and the spa is super relaxing. The rooms are very generous in size and very comfortable. A very enjoyable stay.

We stayed at the g Hotel on our 'mini-moon' and we couldn't have been more impressed.
There was a congratulations card on the table of the room, along with chocolates and cupcakes. Our room, which is the basic room I believe, was spacious and beautifully presented. Our dinner was superb and again, we were treated to a complimentary dessert with 'congratulations' piped onto the plate. Queries at reception were handled courteously, professionally and promptly. Moreover, the staff went over and above just answering queries e.g., we sought directions for a restaurant that was recommended to us, but the staff member told us that with it being graduation night, we may struggle to get a table without a booking and she undertook to ring the restaurant to arrange a table. The most impressive aspect of the service occurred when we realised that my husband's car's battery was flat. One of the staff - Noel - used his own car and two sets of jump leads and a considerable amount of time to get the car started. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Overall, a fabulous experience.

The only negative aspect that I can think of is that the coffee served at breakfast was never as hot as I would have liked it!

My Wife and I had a lovely stay here but.....unfortunately little things we noticed during our 3 days disappointed us a little especially in a 5 Star hotel !

Ok we're not finnicky types and generally we were happy but the small things were, firstly, our signature G Hotel shell cushion on our bed looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade with, eh, worrying looking stains on it and the button hanging off it by a thread also ! Secondly on 2 separate days when I used the public toilets on the Lounge level the bin for handtowels was full and overflowing onto the floor and the area around the urinals badly needed mopping ! Finally despite regular room service attendance they forgot to replenish our loo roll on the 2nd night, oh well !

On the very bright side though the lounges are fabulous, the breakfasts very good and the general food very well done. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the Spa is wonderful !

The Spa was the best thing we experienced on a holiday in some time. We both paid for a package that involved use of their thermal suite before 4 seperate masseuse treatments followed by a 2 course meal that was worth every euro we paid for them. If you're happy to splash out on a day like this you won't regret it, the Spa, at least, is definitely 5 Star !

My husband and I stayed here for two nights as part of a package trip. The hotel was so modern/interesting...it felt like we were in scenes from Alice in Wonderland! Our room seemed super-clean, but just as we were about to leave the room and check-out I saw a small roach in our bathroom. Thankfully I didn't see it until we were leaving, or I would've been skeeved out the entire rest of our stay.

As far as location...it's about a 15 minute walk (uphill) to the city center. My husband and I like walking around, so we didn't mind the stroll. If you want to go to the Salthill area, you should drive.

The breakfast was everything I've come to expect of irish breakfast...enormous!! In addition to the buffet, they had a menu of speciality items that could be ordered at no charge.
